Zed Horses For Sale

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to quickly cover zed horses for sale! We’ll talk about:

  • Platforms to buy horses on
  • State of the market currently
  • What you want to focus on

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy he ride!

Zed Horses For Sale

If you’ve become a Zed head, then you are going to want to know where to purchase your first horse! The best place to find Zed horses for sale is none other than the Opensea platform!

If you’ve never used Opensea, it is a platform where people can buy, sell, trade, list, and create NFTs! Here is the link you will want to follow to go straight to the official Zed Run page on Opensea to purchase a horse.

The platform is extremely easy to use. The fastest way to start purchasing your own NFTs is to just setup a MetaMask account and connect it to the platform. After that, your NFTs will automatically pop up on the platform for use and your wallet will populate with WEth.

How To Move Funds

If you are looking to start purchasing horses on Opensea, then you are going to want to know how to move funds onto the Polygon network.

We have a great post about just how to do that here!

Although, there is one thing to mention.

There has been a change in how people move Eth from the Ethereum Blockchain to the Polygon network.

The cheapest solution on the market is now the Umbra bridge that can be found here!

In order to bridge your Eth to WEth, you simply need to go to the link above, bridge the amount you want, and it will show up in your Polygon wallet.

State Of The Market

Something also to consider is the current state of the market for Zed.

In the year 2021 alone, the prices of horses have risen and fallen dramatically depending on the state of the game. In the first half of the year, prices of horses shot up way higher than people ever expected. Z1s went from being worth a few Ethereum to worth over 20.

Although, in the second half of the year the prices of horses fluctuated downward. For instance, the Z1s have dropped to almost 10 Ethereum for a bad one and 15 Eth for an unraced one.

In addition to these changes, the price of Ethereum has shot from $2,000 to almost $5,000 at times making horse prices that much more volatile.

The only certainty in the market at the moment is for these kinds of horses:

  • Genesis horses that can consistently race for profit
  • Genesis horses that can consistently breed strong offspring
  • Low Z value genesis horses
  • Horses that can race for profit in C1 consistently
  • Horses that can race for profit in a certain distance brackets (sprinter, mid, marathon) and down class consistently in others staying in a lower class like C3 or C4
  • Unraced and unbred genesis horses

All of these kinds of horses above are retaining their value and should be what you look to buy if you are entering the market.

What To Focus On

Zed Run Horses For Sale

With all of that in mind, you are going to need a way to find those horses.

Most people in the market will either spend a ton of time combing Opensea daily, or use the Hawku website to help with that.

On the Hawku site, you can filter to the kind of horse you are looking for by going to listing. This is a huge help for those looking for racers, or for those looking to find horses that can breed well.

We suggest people use this tool when looking for the right zed horses for sale.

Another great tool to use is the know your horse site. If you use this site, you can easily view a potential purchase’s stats more in depth and get a better feel for their distance preferences and recent race history.

Zed Run Breeding Theory

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to go over our Zed Run Breeding Theory! To note, there are several plausible theories and plenty of discovery left in the game, so take this post at face value and make sure to dig into the data and resources yourself to determine your own theory!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Breeding Theory

While we might not be known for breeding, or really for much in the Zed space, we have been learning a ton over the past few months!

We’ve manage to qualify several horses for most tournaments, accumulated several hundred wins across our stables, bred a couple of ponies, and learned from some of the best in the eco-system.

With all of this, we have decided to start formulating and testing our own theories in terms of breeding. We feel that we finally have an acceptable level of knowledge to do so and share it with you. So here it is – our breeding theory.

Most people might be familiar with the XYZ or Danshan theories, but ours is quite simple.

We don’t worry too much about odds, griffins, or the infamous 1600m indicator of a good breeder.

Why might you ask? Well, we think there are simpler solutions.

Distance Preference And Bloodline

To sum up our theory:

We believe that offspring distance preference and a mix of bloodline are the two most important indicators for if a pair of horses will breed well together.

Lets give an example. Lets say we want to breed two horses from our barn. We are going to choose Idol Meaning and Different Gravey for this example.

Now, there are a few very important things we need to understand before we discuss our theory.

  1. Distance preference is NOT an inherited trait (If the parent is a sprinter, then offspring will not directly be a sprinter because of the parents distance preferences)
  2. Distance preference is chosen randomly at birth by the algorithm
  3. The horse’s variance is also randomly assigned at birth

All of the above statements have either been confirmed, said, or basically agreed upon by either the Zed team or the community.

Now then, what they DON’T say is the degree or type of randomness used.

Therefore, we believe that horses have a HIGHER chance at breeding certain distance preferences out to their offspring that is apart of their DNA if you will.

Choosing A Breeding Pair

Here are some things to consider before choosing a pair of horses to breed.

Obviously, you are going to want a horse with a high base ability, so you are going to want to have a Nakamoto or Szabo somewhere in the bloodline. That is a given.

Our theory also leans on the idea that mixing bloodlines produces the best offspring with the highest degrees of variance. Therefore, we aim to breed our Nak with either a Bute, Finney, or Szabo for example.

Lets go back to our chosen breeding paid Idol Meaning and Different Gravey. Here is an image of their offspring charts:

Here is Idol Meaning’s Breeding chart heat map by distance for his offspring from the Know Your Horses website:

Idol meaning Offspring

As we can see from the above image, out of 27 offspring Idol tends to breed horses that favor sprinting.

Likewise, lets look at Different Gravey’s breeding chart heat map by distance for his offspring:

Different Gravey Offspring

Again from the above chart we can see that Different Gravey breeds out a decent amount of sprinters, but has a much smaller sample size of only 6 offspring.

From these charts, especially Idol Meaning’s, we can see how our theory plays out.

Horses have a higher chance of breeding out certain distance preferences baked somewhere into their DNA. While still random, with enough data points we start to see it.

Therefore, if you get two horses that like to breed the same distance preference of offspring, then we theorize that you have a higher probability of getting more base ability into that distance preference from the get go and thus a stronger horse!

Bloodline Importance

The next thing to circle back on is bloodlines. It is quite apparent that Nakamotos carry the most base ability out of any of the lines. Although when it comes to breeding, they can only pass so much on to their offspring.

In our theory we believe that they are limited by their bloodline, just as they are gifted by it. The theory is that mixing bloodlines opens up the ability to pass on base ability to an offspring.

Now we still believe this is random obviously or people could just rinse and repeat the PERFECT pair of horses. But, we think mixing bloodlines gives an offspring a higher chance of being consistently better by having a higher base ability.

What’s the catch then?

Well, the catch is variance.

Variance Importance

The last piece of the puzzle, Ignoring coat colors and lore all together, is a horse’s variance.

Randomly assigned at birth, a horses natural ability to perform well(we mean REALLY well), is vitally important.

For instance, lets imagine a horse can have a maximum base ability of 100. And in any given race, variance determines the amount of that ability that it has access to.

Well, a horse that has the maximum base ability of 100 will STILL suck if it only has access to use 40% – 60% of it on the track. This would be what is considered an A-shaped racer.

Meanwhile, a horse that might be able to access 10% to 90% of its base ability will stomp races and then fully lose some. This would be considered a U-Shaped racer.

This is all determined by variance and is what makes determining the most important breeding variables so difficult to pin down.

Please remember that this is just ONE theory out of many. We hope people will treat this post as educational and informative as you find and test your own theories!

Well see you on the track!

Zed Run Genotype

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to cover the Zen Run Genotype trait that horses have. There’s a lot to learn to lets go ahead and dive in!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice! Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Genotype

In this post we are going to dive into a fun property that Zed Run horses hold.

If you are unfamiliar with Zed Run, it is a virtual horse racing platform where stable owners can race their NFTs for Ethereum. You can find more about it here on our official review if you are new to the platform.

What Is Zed Run Genotype

To answer this frankly, it is the genealogy of an NFT horse represented by a numerical number from 1 all the way to 268.

Every NFT horse has this property and it can be thought of as an indicator for the horse’s potential base ability. For instance, you would naturally assume a Z001 would be better than a Z057.

While that is not always the case, it certainly lends the idea that stable owners will want to collect low Z value horses due to their potential to be better racers, breeders, and retain their value.

What Is Z Value

NFT Horse

Z value is the property that reflects a horses genotype.

For example, lets take a look at the genesis horses since they are broken down from bloodtype and genotype:

  • Nakamoto genesis horses have either a Z001 or Z002 property
  • Szabo genesis horses have either a Z003 or Z004 property
  • Finney genesis horses have either a Z005, Z006, or Z007 property
  • And finally Buterin horses have either a Z008, Z009, or Z010 property

As we can tell, the Nakamoto horses are the most sought after and prized horses on the platform due to their low natural Z values and higher potential to be good racers and breeders.

Speaking of breeding, what happens when two horses breed in regards to their genotype?

Breeding Horses

When two horses breed, the offspring is a combination of the parents Z value. For example, if a Z010 and a Z005 breed they will produce a Z015.

Therefore, you will never be able to breed anything lower than a Z002, since the lowest pair of parents you can have is a Z001 and a Z001.

Due to this, lower Z value horses will retain value better, inherit more traits from their parents, and have the best potential to became great racers.

Why It Matters

Although why does this matter?

At the end of the day, genotype is a sort of hierarchy in the horse world. While a Z010 could still be better than a Z001, it is rare.

For that reason, genotype is only an indication of potential. You will never really know how great a horse is until you breed and race it. Stable owners must take genotype as just that, face value.

How It Effects Racing

In practice though, it is clear that Z001’s are the platform’s Bitcoin.

For instance, in the grand finals of the first Fibonacci cup on the platform, almost all of the finalists were either Z001, or Z002.

This does not mean that a higher Z value horse could not have made it, but it does show the importance of having a low Z value for more consistency and quality.

Long-Term Utility

For those that are probably wondering this question,

“What is the point then in racing against Z001’s that will always beat my horse in the end?”

Well, there is always a chance that your horse will still win. While it is low, it is there. And everyone loves and upset.

Besides the small probability, the Zed Run platform is aiming at bringing utility to the masses.

What that means is that they want to provide the higher Z value horses with more utility and in turn more value. This might be through tournaments where only Z020+ horses can enter or it might be with tracks where only high Z value horses can race for large prize pools. We are not sure exactly how this will play out, but they have communicated as such.

In the meantime, we suggest people get used to the platform and build out your stables!

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we quickly cover the Zed Run Coat Color Chart!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Coat Color Chart

For those that have been trying to find this, here is the image that most people use to figure out if their horse has a rare coat color or not!

Zed Run Coat Color Chart

There are many things about coat colors that most people might not know.

For starters, it is extremely rare to get a “super rare” coat color. You basically have to have one or two breeding together with the same super rare coat to get the highest probability, but even then it does not always work out.

Although, there was a fun theory that failed super rare coat color attempts increases base ability. This theory is not confirmed, but was brought up by the one and only Danshan.

The rarest coat colors by volume are currently:

  • Aggressive Azure
  • Papaya Whip

Both coat colors have less than 300 horses in total as of writing this at 12/16/2021.

In addition, there is a unique coat color only found on the horse Billions called fortune.

Finally, the coat color of Oval Orchid can also only be found on one Z1 horse. We suspect that once this horse breeds it will start to pass this coat color around to the rest of the population.

Zed Run Coat Color Meaning

While some people might think that the coat colors have nothing to do with the horse, that is not what was intended nor is that what will end up being the case.

While there might not be a direct correlation to racing and coat color at this time, down the line we feel there might be more of a correlation then people originally thought.

Lets go over the main classes of coat color:

  • The first branch of coat color, “Neptune” is supposed to represent patient, well balanced horses that are eager to please.
  • The next branch is called “Earth” and represents horses that love to run, have naturally high stamina, and are fast learners. A negative about these horses is that they can be easily spooked.
  • Up next is the “Wild” class which represents horses that are tough, independent and consistent. These horses are supposed to excel at a marathon, but can be upset if frightened.
  • Next is the “Moon” color class which represents horses that are versatile, balanced, and spirited.
  • The next color class is “Fiery” which as you can guess represents bold, quick , and agile horses. These horses have a ton of speed from their long-legged physique.
  • Next to last is the “Classic” coat class which represents horses that are level-headed, courageous, and consistent in energy levels. In addition, they mentioned that these horses might fair better as a stayer aka a horse that runs at distance.
  • Finally we have our last coat class “Mystical” which represents horses that are highly intelligent, energetic, versatile, and suitable for all race conditions.

Coat Color Theories

There are a ton of theories currently around coat colors.

For instance, do they actually do anything at all for the horses ability? Do they matter as much when it comes to long-term value?

As we mentioned above, some people believe that certain failed super coat horses perform better than others. Who knows yet, but soon we will have the data to start to dig deeper into these kinds of questions!

Long-Term Value

Another good question is will these rare coats hold their value long-term?

There has been some debate on this, as of now there really is nothing maintaining the super rare and rare coat value of a horse besides speculation.

Long-term, many of the Zed core team members have expressed that they want to bring additional utility to these horses. Either by offering them special races, or by giving them an animation boost on the track.

We don’t know yet what the benefit will be, but the Zed team has confirmed that they are looking to do something down the line.

Thanks for reading out post on the Zed Run Coat Color Chart! We hope this post helps people to find this chart when looking for it and educates some people on the lore behind the coat colors!

how does zed run work

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to answer the question – How Does Zed Run Work?

While most people that read our posts might already be fairly familiar with the platform, there are plenty of new people entering the space that are asking this question daily.

Therefore, we are going to go over a few thing to help answer the question:

  • Platform Overview
  • Stable Overview
  • How Does Racing Work
  • Virtually Human Studios
  • Technical Overview

After this post, you should be able to explain Zed Run to your grandma!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

How Does Zed Run Work

There’s a lot to cover in this post, but we are going to try and keep it as condensed as possible. Sometimes too much knowledge will only confuse people looking for simple answers.

So, if after you’ve read this post, digested it and drank your coffee, you still want MORE – then scroll to the bottom and follow some of the links there to other posts with more detail and information!

With that said lets dive into the platform!

Platform Overview

Zed Run Racing

For those that are completely new to Zed, the website or platform can be found here at Zed Run.

This is where you will use your horses for a multitude of things like:

  • Breeding
  • Racing
  • Studding
  • Admiring
  • Eventually renting

The platform requires new users to sign up and link a MetaMask account to create your stable. Creating a stable is completely free and can be done in a matter of minutes without lengthy approval or annoying identity verification.

On the platform you can do several things like:

  • Watch current races that are happening under the “racing” tab. This tab is also where you will go to find available races later on
  • View the stud barn under the “breeding” tab. This is where you will go to find a male horse to breed with your female horses.
  • You can learn the basics about NFT horses under the “learn” tab. There is much more information found here on the community page for Zed and on our blog under the Zed Run menu item
  • Or you can see the most recent updates to the platform by using the “what’s new” tab.
  • The last thing is obviously the ability to view your stable by clicking on the top right icon of the platform IF you are logged in.

Not, lets go over the stable!

Stable Overview

Zed Run Stable View

If you create your stable by logging in with your MetaMask, then you have the option to click on the top right icon to access it.

In addition to creating a stable, you get to name it and have your very own link as well that you can share on your socials or with friends.

An extremely popular thing is to actually create a logo for your stable and get a Twitter account to help support it! For an example, you can find ours here:

The point of the Zed Run stable is to:

  • Show your horses
  • Display what horses are currently in races or in the stud barn
  • This is also where newborn horses will populate! Once they show up, you can click on them and name them!
  • Show your stable stats, wins, name, logo
  • Allow other people to view your stable and stats
  • This is where you click on each of your horses to: Race them, stud them, or view their stats
  • This is also where you can transfer your horses from stable to stable

The stable is extremely important, and you will spend a decent amount of time here, so it is good to get familiar with it.

How Does Racing Work

Once you have your stable setup with a few horses that you purchase on Opensea, it is time to race!

In order to race your lovely NFT horses here is what you need to do:

  • Connect your MetaMask account to the website to load up your stable
  • Go to the “racing” tab on the platform
  • Choose what class (1 through 5) that you want to race in
  • Click on your preferred distance (1000M – 2600M) and your preferred buy in (free – $500+)
  • Choose a horse from your stable after you click on a race
  • Approve the transaction on your MetaMask (it should popup or show that it has a notification)
  • Click on the race again to make sure your horse was entered
  • Wait for the race to fill
  • Go to “racing” after the race fills, then click “Next To Run”, and then filter for your horses
  • Here you can click on the race and wait for your horse to run!
  • Choose to either view the race in 2D or 3D!

After the race concludes, your wallet will automatically get paid out if your horse gets in top 3 by the smart contract!

Then all you have to do it rinse and repeat!

We will not get into racing strategy, but if you want to learn about racing in general and how to value a horse’s stats, then click here on this post!

Virtually Human Studios

Virtually Human Studios

The next thing to discuss is the company behind Zed Run. The company that made our hopes and dreams come true is called Virtually Human Studios!

You can find some of their socials here for those interested:

There is so much to say about this company, but we are going to only cover the basics and need to knows if that makes since.

The company we formally launched in 2019 with a small team. Over the years, they built up a community around their ideas and projects. In early 2021, they launched their first “drop” of Zed horses and sold out of most of the horses that were offered. There were some issues with the drops which resulted in horses not being sold, but for the most part there was plenty of interest from the community.

In addition to the successful drops, they raised around 20M in a series A funding round from the TCG group and a16z.

Most recently, they have unveiled partnerships with some huge brands like:

We are confident that there are several other partnerships in the works, but only time will tell who else is brave enough to join the NFT movement.

Technical Overview

Zed Run Community

The last part of understanding how Zed Run works would be to quickly and briefly covering the blockchain side of things.

To make this as simple as possible, we are actually going to quote a few things straight from the Zed terms of service to be as accurate as possible!

Zed Run Terms Of Service

ZED RUN is a distributed application that runs on the Ethereum network, using uniquely developed smart contracts (Smart Contracts) to enable users to purchase, sell, breed and race statistically unique digital thoroughbreds, which can then be visualized on a website that the user can interact and earn Ethereum from ZED RUN (ZED).

We neither own nor control MetaMask, Google Chrome, the Ethereum network, or any other third party site, product, or service that you might access, visit, or use for the purpose of enabling you to use the various features of ZED. ZED will not be liable for the acts or omissions of any such third parties, nor will we be liable for any damage that you may suffer as a result of your transactions or any other interaction with any such third parties.

If you elect to purchase, sell or breed racehorses using ZED, or with or from other users in ZED, any financial transactions that you engage in will be conducted solely through the Ethereum network via MetaMask. We will have no insight into or control over these payments or transactions, nor do we have the ability to reverse any transactions. With that in mind, we will have no liability to you or to any third party for any claims or damages that may arise as a result of any transactions that you engage in via the App, or using the Smart Contracts, or any other transactions that you conduct via the Ethereum network or MetaMask.

-Zed Terms Of Service

Simplified Version

In simple terms, Zed runs on top of Ethereum, uses smart contracts for payouts and to take payments for races, and utilizes MetaMask for users to retain rights to their NFTs.

Any purchases on the platform or on Opensea are all done on top of the Ethereum blockchain and can never be reversed once made.

Zed Run Horse Stats

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to discuss where you can find zed run horse stats and why they matter!

For those that are new to Zed Run, make sure to check out our review article here of the platform, and check out some of our specific Zed Run content to stay up-to-date on everything happening.

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

zed run horse stats

Lets start with the simple question of – What are Zed Run Horse Stats?

Well, ironically we do not yet fully know. The game developers are Visual Human Studios who are responsible for Zed Run actually like to keep a lot of the horse data hidden. By this we mean – they want the user to discover these stats over time. Slowly, we are starting to chip away at the mysterious ice berg of data that they have behind closed doors.

The Zed community is doing this by racing, breeding, and analyzing the current data that we do have. Here is how Zed Run Horse Stats are broken down:

  • Horse Base Ability

Horse Base Ability is just what it sounds like – the amount of ability that the horse has in its figurative tank to race with. Think of this amount as an overall number – lets say 1000.

Hypothetically, lets imagine a horse is able to put each of those 1000 points into 100 buckets. Each of these buckets will contain a random amount of points that we can refer to as a distribution. Just for examples sake, lets say:

  • Bucket 1 holds 10 points
  • Bucket 2 holds 27 points
  • And Bucket 3 could hold 2 points
  • so on and so on until all 1000 points are distributed throughout the 100 buckets

This is how we have theoretically imagined the racing algorithm that horses race with based on base ability.

To advance this idea, lets imagine that the better the bloodline, say Nakamoto or Szabo, the more base ability points a horses starts with randomly. For instance, a Nakamoto horse might be able to start with anywhere from 1000 to 10,000 base ability points that is random assigned at creation while a Buterin’s might be around 500 to 5,000 randomly assigned.

This is all hypothetical and just an example to help us understand base ability quantitatively.

  • Variance

The next part of horses stats to consider is variance.

Variance can be considered the ability of a horse to run extremely fast in a race or extremely slow.

Horses that have a high variance naturally develop a U-shape to their racing pattern because they either place first or last in races.

This is highly sought after since it awards more wins and high prize pools when the horse performs well.

In turn, horses with lower variance might start to exhibit an A-shape form constantly placing 4th through 8th in races. In other words, they are consistently in the middle of the pack and have a very hard time moving up or down in the class system.

Unfortunately, these horses are not sought after, but can still be decent horses thanks to their potential breeding ability which we will cover next.

  • Breeding

The last part of of the Zed Run horse stats is breeding.

Now, this attribute is much harder to quantify then the previous things mentioned. Why is it harder to quantify?

Well, because there are so many variables that can be factored into breeding. Like take for example the Z score of a horse, the male and female weights, the bloodline and on and on it goes.

In addition, it has been theorized that breeding is its own stat by itself not directly correlated to racing statistics.

This makes identifying breeding exceptional hard.

The only way to actually understand a horses breeding ability is to breed them over and over with multiple different blood lines, and blood types.

Best Platforms For Horse Stats

Now that we know the different horse stats to look for, where can we find this data?

There are many platforms that are starting to spark up across the market, but here are our favorite.

  • KnowYourHorse – Great for tracking race stats, viewing offspring of horses, and checking out some of your own stable’s stats!
  • Hawku – Good platform to dig a bit deeper into some of the financial stats of horses and their racing stats in general
  • StakedNaks – Great platform for those looking to dig a bit deeper into the data like variance, means, ranges etc
  • MJ Informatics – Probably the best platform to really dig into data and view profitability across distances

Each of these platforms focuses on slightly different aspects of the game, but each one is a tool you should master if you want to fully understand your horse.

NFT Horse

Welcome back to the Tribe for a post on the best NFT to buy – A NFT horse!

In this post we are going to dive into what to look for when trying to purchase your first NFT horse!

Specifically, we will be looking at horses that run on the Zed Run platform and can be used in multiple ways like:

  • Studding for passive income
  • Breeding for new NFTs
  • Racing for Ethereum

In this post we will mainly be discussing:

  • Horse costs
  • Utility
  • Liquidity
  • Horse value
  • Different types of Racers (Aka what to buy and what not to buy)
  • Where to buy a NFT horse

While this is extremely exciting and enthralling to new comers, please make sure to learn as much as you can before putting your money in the market!

In other words, do your research! This post is purely meant to be educational and help those that are new have a better grasp of what they are looking for.

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

NFT Horse

We are going to kick things off with one of the simplest questions.

What does a NFT horse cost?

NFT Horse Cost

Zed Run NFT

In short, NFT horses can range from costing a few hundred dollars to costing several thousand per horse.

As we can see in the image above, the lowest price for a single horse is currently at .017 Ethereum (ETH) at the time of writing which is 10/19/2021.

That equates to about $65 for the CHEAPEST horse on the entire market out of all 130k of them.

Now as the market continues to grow and grow with more people breeding, these prices will continue to fall for some of the less popular horses that are not wanted.

While the low price tag of $65 might look appealing to new comers, these are almost always the price ranges that you do NOT want to purchase at.

Lets just say that you will get what you pay for.

If you buy a $65 horse or even a $100 horse, more than likely, you will not have fun on the platform.

Ideally, you are going to need at least a couple of hundred dollars and more likely a couple of thousand to get started.

In addition, you are going to need to dig through the market listings for a great underpriced horse, and even negotiate with some sellers to get them down to your budget.

In reality, if you want to dive into Zed Run with some decent horses with Genesis blood lines, you are going to need several thousand dollars or one to two ETH just to get started.

Although, what are you really paying for? Lets talk about the horse’s utility.

Utility

While you might think that you are investing in the future of NFTs, or maybe just buying a pony to race for a few bucks, there is much more to NFT horses that you need to know.

As we mentioned above, these horses have more utility then just racing.

They can be breed, be studded out, and eventually even get rented out to other stables.

NFT Horse For Sale

Some horses like the Nakamotos can generate thousands of dollars per month alone from just studding or breeding without even racing.

As we can see above, these horses can get rather pricey and even go into the hundreds of thousands depending on their stats.

You need to keep this in mind when buying your first horse! Make sure to get ones that fit into your overall stable plan the best.

Liquidity

The next thing you need to consider is liquidity.

If you are new to the NFT market, then you need to know that these items are not the most liquid.

While you can easily sell Bitcoin or Ethereum on an exchange, selling an NFT can be challenging if you run into a pinch and need money.

Almost daily we see someone on Twitter trying to panic sell their NFTs due to a personal problem. Sadly, they are forced to liquidate their NFTs at a fraction of their worth. This is mainly because they do not have the time to allow their NFT to sit on the market.

It would be HIGHLY beneficial for you to be financially stable outside of the market before stepping into NFTs. (Not financial advice, just sharing common knowledge)

This will keep you from making rash or impulsive decisions about money as well.

This is not the place to try and “scrape by”.

Long-Term Value

Now that we’ve reflected on the importance of financial stability and liquidity, lets circle back to the overall value of a NFT horse.

If you know anything about crypto, then you will already understand that patience and timing are your best friend.

Whatever you purchase in the NFT market, it will probably require the same treatment.

If you are buying a NFT horse, make sure you buy one that you think will appreciate over time and produce consistently.

For instance, purchasing a genesis bloodline NFT horse is a long-term investment.

Overtime, there will never be anymore genesis horses made while there will be millions of other horses created from breeding in the coming years. (I.E. Legendary, Exclusive, Elite, Cross and Pacers)

Obviously, owning a genesis horse, and a good one at that, will reap its own reward over the years to come as the available supply becomes less and less compared to the rest of the market.

Now that we’ve discussed utility, liquidity, and value, lets dive into actually looking at a horse’s stats.

NFT Horses

NFT Horse Sale

There are a few things that you need to consider when looking at horses on the market:

  • Do you want to race your horse?
  • Do you want to breed your horse?
  • Are you going to only hold your horse and hope it appreciates?
  • Are you going to try and build out a stable
  • Do you want to try and resell your horse?

Well, the best way to actually answer those questions is from experience.

While we did suggest that you purchase horses that are “worth something”, it is also good advice to buy a cheap horse at first to play with and learn the ropes.

Do not take this horse seriously, but use it to get your feet wet. For this, yes you can buy the $65 horse. In the name of science ONLY!

Ironically, most people that join Zed Run find out that their original plan for their stable ends up not being what they ultimately enjoy to do.

Although, lets assume you want to race your NFT horse. What are you going to want to look for in a racing horse?

NFT Horse Race

Here are the types of racers you are going to want look for (or not look for in some cases):

  • U-shaped
  • A-shaped
  • Donkeys
  • Average Winners
  • Monsters

Lets go over each of these horse types.

For reference, if you want to compare a horse you found on the market to the charts below then go to KnowYourHorse and search the horse’s name.

You can compare your horse’s stats to the charts below to figure out if it is a good racer or not!

U-Shaped

U-shaped

The most common horse that people want is called a U-shaped racer.

These horses have a very special trait where they will either place in the top 4 or in the bottom 4 fairly consistently. Above is an example of a perfect U-shaped racer.

While this might not sound special, what the U-shape does is keep the horse relatively in the same class.

In Zed Run, if your horse is constantly placing in the top 4, then it will slowly start to move up in the class system and race against stronger horses.

In contrast, if a horse is constantly placing in the bottom 4 then it will slowly move down the class system and race against weaker horses.

As you can see, a horse that constantly alternates from the bottom to the top will typically stay near a middle to lower class naturally.

This allows the stable owner to profit from higher priced races while still staying in the same class racing against weaker horses.

Typically, these are good horses to own, and we recommend people looking for these in the market.

A-Shaped

A-Shaped

The next type of horse that we are going to discuss is called an A-shaped racer.

As we can see in the chart above, an A-shaped racer will typically place anywhere from 5th to 8th in any given race with a majority of the placements being centered around 6th or 7th.

Here is why you do NOT want to buy one of these horses:

  • They will never profit from racing because they will consistently lose entry fees and almost never win 1st (which is where you recoup most of your money)
  • They can almost never down class to race against weaker horses (This hypothetically would help them to win, but they can not down class efficiently)
  • Once you decide to sell this horse, very few people will want to purchase it netting you a horrible ROI

In your research of horses on the market, make sure to avoid these kinds of racers.

Now, one thing to consider is breeding.

While an A-shaped racer will not make you money on the track, sometimes they can still be decent breeders.

Therefore, look at the offspring’s stats to determine if the horse can be used for breeding.

Donkeys

Donkey

Another type of racer that you do NOT want to own is a donkey.

A donkey is typically considered a horse that just can’t cut it anywhere.

They can’t win in the sprint, they can’t win in the mid distance, and they for sure are not marathon runners.

There has been a ton of discussion from the community and Zed on what to do with these horses from token burns, to set races just for donkeys, and even to tournaments for theses “losers”.

In short, do not buy one of these horses unless you are experienced and can understand potential that might be hiding in some of these.

Average Winners

Average winner

These are the racers that most stables will want to look for.

From the chart above we can see that this horse wins and shows (gets top 3) a good amount.

Not to mention that this horse in particular is racing in class 1 (the highest class) and still winning consistently. You can’t tell that from the chart, but I am letting you know that additional detail.

These are the kinds of horses that you want to purchase if you can. These are great horses to race, learn from, and breed if they are genesis and within your budget.

Although, before purchasing you need to consider the TYPE races that the horse has run.

For instance, you need to be careful when looking at a horse’s race results because some of the races might have been mostly free or extremely cheap races.

Free and cheap races can tend to skew the data to make a horse look better than it really is since there is less competition in these races.

You can view all of this on the KnowYourHorse website by searching the horses name and scrolling to the bottom where the races are.

Monsters

Monster

The last type of racer we are going to discuss is what Zed heads like to call – Monsters.

These are horses that are just really a cut above the rest. They constantly win regardless of the class or competition.

Usually these horses will have a preferred distance set like 1600m through 2000m that they will absolutely dominate in.

The thing is, these horses are the king of the track in those distances. If you see these horses in a race, avoid them at all cost.

Although, if you are searching to buy one then you will probably come up short.

These horses pull a premium at almost all bloodlines, and will more than likely be out of most people’s budget right off the back.

An alternative method to acquiring one of these is to buy unraced horses that come from good parents or that are genesis and race them to see!

If you happen to land on a monster through that method, hold on to them and use them to race and build out your stable.

Buy NFT Horse

Opensea NFT Horse

Now that you know what you are looking for in a race horse, it is time to try and purchase your first NFT horse!

The platform you are going to want to use is Opensea.io!

This is an NFT marketplace where Zed Run horses can be bought, sold, and bid on!

There are a few things to consider before diving into the NFT marketplace though.

Scams

The first thing to consider is, there are tons of scams.

You need to be extremely careful to make sure that any NFT you purchase is the real deal. The way you can typically tell is by tracing back the mint of the NFT to the actual platform or creators you want to purchase from. Alternatively, you can make sure that the account selling the NFT is verified by Opensea by the blue check mark on their profile picture.

Make sure your NFT horse comes from the Zed Run official Opensea page here.

Hackers are constantly trying to come up with ways to steal your assets, and a common way is by sending NFTs or links to your wallet that have malicious code lingering around. If you are ever given an NFT from an unknown source, leave it or delete it. Do not engage with it or use it in anyway.

Setup Your Wallet

The last thing you are going to need to do is add funds to your MetaMask!

We have an awesome blog here that you can follow in order to purchase your first NFT horse for those that need it!

What is Your Favorite Thing About Zed?

We love to clap the cheeks of other horses and we ain’t talkin about breeding.

All aside, I think we love to find horses that may have been overlooked and improve upon their ROI.

In short, we just love to race. We are addicted to proving what we think with analytics and research on the track.

We are fiends for competition and calling out other stables and horses for some good old friendly races on the tracks.

What Kind Of Content Can People Expect?

I think our stream is a direct representation of how we have spent these past 5 months racing and learning Zed. We are passionate, we drink, and we don’t take things too seriously. We just try to have a good ole’ time.

I hope when people watch us they see themselves in us because in reality we are basically just broke college kids yeeting a stimmy check on digital horse racing.

Although, it would be a disservice to the team if we didn’t mention that we are focused on helping people learn how to race, evaluate horses, and how best to have fun in the Zed ecosystem.

I hope they tune into our channel for a good time and maybe take some pointers away on racing/breeding. We love when people even help us with our theories!

There’s power in numbers, and we can’t possibly test all of our theories. The more eyes on what we think the merrier.

Without the people, I am certain Zed would not be where it is today.

What Kind Of Content Can People Expect?

I just started streaming recently, but many people come to me with tons of educational based questions.

In addition, a lot of people just want help with getting set up on Zed run and picking their first horse! I do that all the time for people.

Zed Guru is a stable owner from Auburn, AL.

What Is Your Favorite Thing About Zed?

Outside of being very aligned with my hobbies in terms of enjoying physical horse racing, tech, and investing – I think that my favorite thing about Zed is the fact that everyone can pick an entry point and a strategy that they believe will work best for them.

Then people can just try that strategy out, build upon it and fine tune it to succeed in this space. You can do that with just about anything from breeding to racing.

What Kind Of Content Can People Expect?

I hope that my content can be very analytical and in a way exhibit a “Level 2” sort of thinking.

There are a TON of great content creators who do awesome ‘on-boarding’ for beginners, and I believe my content adds to that by giving people different strategies, analytical thinking.

In short, I am to provide some of the ‘high level’ discussions that will be fun for both newer players and experienced players alike.

I always like to participate in community events and host these discussions in a fun and constructive way!

Zed Guru Socials

You can find me on Twitter here or check out our site for some additional content!

DanShan

DanShan Blood Tool

Who Is DanShan

DanShan is a stable owner and tool provider from Portugal that was relocated to Costa Rica for work.

What Is Your Favorite Thing About Zed

Naturally, I love racing! I originally joined this platform to race, but have transitioned into more of a breeding mentor for the community due to my tool and analytics background.

I think the best thing about ZED is the love users have for the platform.

Even with some bad snaps on drops and other hiccups along the way, Zedders have hung in there and the game is still growing.

What Kind Of Content Can People Expect

Users can expect a professional grade breeding tool with my Blood Tool which gives them an advantage over the rest of the community.

I think my racing algorithm is really the secret to all the DanShan hype.

That includes the hype around breeding, but most people forget I came in as a racer not a breeder.

It is just that I used my racing algorithm to design a solid breeding plan for other people to benefit from as well.

DanShan Socials

You can find me on Twitter here or check out my site for breeding content and benefits!

Zed Run Influencers Post

Thanks for checking out our post on the top Zed Run Influencers in the community! Make sure to go give each of them a follow on Twitch and Twitter, and keep up with all the great content that are pushing out.

Welcome back to the Tribe!

Today we will be discussing one of the most recent changes to virtual racing – Zed Run Horse Stamina.

There is plenty of debate already across the community on what it is, why it is important, and mainly how to manage it. Therefore, we are going to dive in today to answer some of those questions, and hopefully help you guys win more races!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Horse Stamina

The newest addition to the horse racing algorithm is stamina. The funny thing about these additions to the platform is that the developers don’t exactly fully explain what these changes do.

In fact, they gave the community very little information at all about the impact of stamina on a horse. They more consider this as a discovery phase for players, which is kind of cool in ways. At the same time, it can be very frustrating.

With the limited data we have so far, lets take a look at what stamina is.

What Is Horse Stamina

Horse Stamina

Zed Run horse stamina is a metric to let the stable owner know how tired a horse is. In other words, how much energy a horse has left in the tank.

If you look above at the image we provided above, you can see a little curved bar going around each horse. This is their stamina bar! Right now, it is quite hard to view stamina except when trying to enter races.

Many of the data platforms like Know Your Horse are currently trying to build out plugins and features to make these metrics more accessible for the community.

Stamina in general is a simple concept, but leaves plenty of questions unanswered like:

  • At what percentage of stamina does a horse no longer compete at full capacity?
  • What are the effects on a horse’s stats from continually racing with low stamina?
  • How long does it take to fully replenish a horse’s stamina?

Well, we are going to try and answer those below. lets dig in deeper to why stamina is so important.

Why Is It important

Stamina is important because it can drastically effect a horse’s ability to perform in races.

This is clearly an issue since it is imperative for horses to perform at their best in races to maintain their stats, win money, and continue to show.

If a horse is unable to perform, then slowly their stats start to fall. This can impact several things like:

  • An assets overall value
  • How much a horse can charge for stud fees – male horse
  • How much a U/U/U offspring can be sold for – female horse
  • And obviously the amount of races you can win

As we can see, stamina can effect everything about a horse if not cared for properly or fully understood.

So, lets dive into some tips we have learned to help managing your horse’s stamina.

How To Manage Stamina

While the stamina feature is new, you have to imagine that people all over the community are trying their best to figure it out.

Here are some general rules that pertain to stamina that should help you manage it:

  • Only race up to three times per day

This is a general rule for horses. If you race them over three times per day then you will start to see them perform poorly on the 4th-6th races. Now, some people have begun to use this to their advantage to class down during these races. But, if you use more of your horse’s stamina in the day before, it will not be fully replenished by the next day for those 3 prime races you want to get in.

As you can see, there are trade offs. If you plan to race your horse every day, then you might want to find a suitable middle ground for down classing vs performing.

  • Winning races might take more stamina

Something that we have personally noticed with our horses is: the faster they run in a race, the more stamina that is taken up.

On several occasions our horses have only raced twice in a day, but performed really well in both races. After trying to sign them up for that third leg, we realize that their stamina bar was lower than usual!

This could just be a coincidence, but it is definitely something to be aware of.

  • Longer distances might take more stamina

The next thing to really consider is the distance that your horse races in.

We have one horse “Minty Fresh” that excels at 2400m races. So much so, that it is all we race her in.

Ironically, we have also noticed that she seems to tire out more frequently than other horses (she is a Z3 by the way). This COULD be tied to her performances, but even when she underperforms it seems to still drain more of her stamina.

  • Some horses might have more stamina

While this is not confirmed by the Zed team (to our knowledge), it definitely feels true.

Some horses seem to be able to run significantly more races per day without losing much stamina. To our knowledge and from a conversation with Danshan, it does seem that the lower Z score a horse has, the high stamina pool that horse COULD potentially have as well.

For instance, a Z1 should be able to run more races per day than a Z5.

General Questions

From this, lets try to answer some of the questions from above.

At what percentage of stamina does a horse no longer compete at full capacity?

It is generally believed that under 90% stamina a horse will start to show diminishing returns. Simply put, it slows down below 90% and needs a carrot break.

What are the effects on a horse’s stats from continually racing with low stamina?

This one is not as quite intuitive.

No one really knows at this point, but clearly it will not be good. There will need to be a way to determine a horses potential at full stamina VS certain percentages of stamina. This could greatly effect a horse’s value on the market as well because owners could race anywhere from 1 to 5 times a day at different strengths ideally.

For example, would you rather purchase a horse that only places 1, 2 or 3 every race at full stamina and then falls off after that. Or purchase a horse that is more consistent for lower percentages of stamina allowing you to race more per day? These kind of questions will have to be answered by the market and data down the line.

How long does it take to fully replenish a horse’s stamina?

This is also a toss up. If a horse if going unraced, it should not take more than 24 hours to replenish a horse’s stamina. Although this can vary at how low the stamina is from its previous races.

Welcome back to the Tribe!

In this post we are going to discuss Zed Run horse speed! If you are new, you might want to fully read this post as it will drastically help you from purchasing a slow horse and investing too much time in a horse that will not return the favor!

We are going to be going over:

  • What is Zed Run horse speed
  • Why is horse speed important
  • Places to get horse statistics
  • Why you should be using flame
  • How this effects breeding

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Horse Speed

In the virtual world of horse racing, several things can give a horse its value.

Sometimes it is bloodline like Nakamoto or Szabo. Sometimes it is their type of Genesis or Legendary.

It can even be coat color like some of the super rare coats that usually bring in a premium.

Although, something that will always bring more value to a horse is it’s speed and race history. While race history is important, experienced stable owners will look past the typical standard statistics they see, and go straight for the horse’s speed.

What is Horse Speed

Zed Run Speed

Horse speed is the rate at which the horses can run races.

For instance, a standard time for the 2000M race is around 120 seconds. While that might win some races, overall it is an average time for the population of horses on the platform.

Horse speed allows users to know more than just wins and losses. It allows them to dig into the potential of a horse.

Why Is Horse Speed Important

As we just mentioned, horse speed is what gives a horse it’s depth.

The horses on the platform are more than wins and losses, flame and odds. They have underlying stats that will let you know their REAL potential. While most horses have not been raced more than 50 times, a horse really won’t show its full potential until its raced around 1000 times.

After about 1000 races, you will start to get a complete picture of the distribution of the horse. Horses with 50 races or even 100, are just a snap shot of what they fully will become.

Find Horse Statistics

Therefore, it is extremely important to know where to get statistics on horses.

Not every horse you buy will have 1000 races, but the more information you can gather on a horse, the better educated decision you can make on where to race them, and how much they are worth after all!

The three main sources we are going to use to retrieve horse speed data are:

  • Know Your Horse (KYH)
  • Zedrun Tools
  • Hawku

Lets dive into the first tool, KYH and we’ll talk about a useful tool that we like: The density chart per distance!

Side note*

We will be looking at one of our very own horses in the Sanfrancisco Tribe StableJocka’s Truce!

Know Your Horse Speed

Almost every Zed head knows about Know Your Horse!

There are A LOT of great tools and metrics on this site that you can use. One in particular that we like is the Density chart. You can find these charts by searching for a horse and clicking on “speed analysis” on the left hand side of the screen. Or it might be hidden somewhere in the menu if you are on mobile.

Anyways, the charts allow you to see your horse’s performance compared to the population standard curve.

Similar to a Z-curve, these charts are great in fully getting a grasp on the range your horse has.

For instance, our horse Jocka’s Truce performs extremely well at 2000M as we can see because his average race times are a full standard deviation above the rest of the population!

Use this tool on your own horses to figure out how the compare to the population, or use it to check out if a horse is worth purchasing! Either way, a great tool to add to your arsenal.

Zedrun Tools Charts

The next tool we are going to use is from a platform called Zedrun Tools!

While Zedrun Tools has many many awesome features, the one we use the most is similar to the last one. To get to this chart below, search a horse and click on “rank analysis” on the left side of your screen. Or in the menu for mobile users.

This tool compares your horse’s performance to the rest of the population in terms of straight percentages. If you hate curves like in the last tool, then this one might be more straight forward for you.

The main difference is that this tool does not fully capture your horses range or tell you the number of races per distance, but it is still a great metric to review!

Below is Jocka’s Truce’s chart. As we can see again, he excels at 2000m and the 1600m standing at the top 85% and 84% of the population respectfully.

Make sure to look up your horses on Zedrun Tools and learn about all the other cool charts and data you can observe on the platform.

Hawku Statistics

The last platform we are going to discuss is Hawku!

Hawku really is more of a general overview for us. Sadly, we have not had the time to fully dig into the platform, but it has been quite successful at measuring a horse’s overall speed for us.

As you can see below, Jocka’s Truce’s speed in total is in the top 95.6%! Clearly this horse has wheels for legs because he is rolling all over that track.

To get to this chart type in your horse’s name and click on “speed data” right below their picture.

What is Zed Run Flame

The last thing to consider when it comes to measuring a horse’s speed is the newest addition to the platform, flame.

Flame is an indicator that Zed Run uses to let users know which horses in each race have the most potential!

Zed Run Flame or Heat

Zed Run Flame or Heat from KYH

This is probably one of the neatest features on the platform. Very early on, you can start to tell which distances your horse is strongest at, even if they are not winning races. This is an awesome tool to help those new to the platform or those not great with data.

From just paying attention to the distances your horse gets flame at and the general level of competition in the race, you can easily find the sweet spot for your horse to excel at!

One thing to consider is that flame, like odds, is relative to the competition per race. For instance, if your horse gets put in a race with plenty of weak horses then it might get flame at a certain distance. Where as in a race with stronger horses, your horse might not get flame at the same distance. Pay attention to this!

Although, what about offspring? Does any of what we talked about matter for a horse’s offspring?

How Speed Effects Breeding

At the end of the day, horses are money machines when it comes to breeding.

Generally, a fast horse will rake in a much larger stud fee compared to slower horses in hopes that the offspring will inherit some of that speed!

While we don’t know for sure how this works, there is a decent correlation to speed being inherited for the most part. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Horse preferences like distance are not an inheritable trait
  • Z value has a part in letting a horse carry on its traits to the offspring
  • Bloodline is mostly just is an indicator to the ultimate potential a horse can reach if you get lucky (like a more expensive lottery ticket with bigger prizes)
  • Offspring get most of their traits from the male (around 65%) and less from the female (around 35%)

With that information, be careful with what and who you breed with!
