Zed Run Discord

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we want to quickly discuss some ways to get plugged into the Race over at the Zed Run Discord

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Discord

For those looking to just find the link to the Zed Run Discord, then here it is: https://discord.com/invite/zedrun

For those looking to get a bit more plugged into the community keep reading below!

Community

If you are a new guy around the track, then welcome to one of (if not the best) current NFT platforms and games to get involved in.

There is so much about Zed that you need to learn, but the most important first step is learning from the proper sources!

Therefore, that is what this post aims to do. There are plenty of awesome and amazing people around the community that are willing to help at a moments notice. Although, there are a few that we suggest people aim to learn the most from. With that being said, here is a great list to kick things off.

Sangudo List

One of the community members has already comprised a pretty solid list of all the people and places that you can learn Zed from. That stable is called Sangudo Stables!

Go ahead and give their Twitter a follow if you don’t mind, and what you are going to want to access off of their Twitter is the google doc they made for us!

For those that do not have a Twitter (or simply are little rebels… oh you), here is the link to the google doc.

This is a pretty solid list that goes over:

  • Discords to join
  • Websites to use for managing your horses
  • Content blogs to follow (like this one)
  • Streamers to watch (There are tons of awesome streamers in this community)
  • Podcasts to listen to
  • Youtube channels (again bunch of awesome creators)
  • Twitter accounts to follow (this is where most of the community hangs out and talks smack)
  • Top stables to review
  • Top Zed employees to know about
  • And some of their in-house content as well!

This really is an all encompassing list, and we suggest for people to start here!

Our Advice

Now that you have the discord link and a complete list of who’s who, here is our direct advice when entering the community.

Get plugged in as much as you can starting off.

  • Meet as many people as you can
  • Start a Twitter
  • Tweet out your races
  • Jump into Zed general to meet some folks
  • Buy some cheap horses

This is truly the best way to learn and grow. Talking to people and learning their secrets & strategies. Because developing your own ideals will take time.

There is no magic pill, secret button, or correct way to play Zed! Some will play purely for profit, others will play for prestige, and some will just play to have a good time.

Either way, getting involved in the community is the first step. You will not survive or have a good time unless you do. Why?

Because like it or not, the community is the best part of this game and the one thing that will continually carry it to a better place.

VHS Acquisition

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to discuss the recent acquisition that Virtually Human Studios made of Spectre Studios! Specifically, we will be talking about what this means for Zed Run down the line!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

VHS Acquisition

First off, what is Spectre Studios?

Spectre Studios is an Australian virtual production company that specializes in making VFX come to life! They do this by working with a bunch of the best tools in the industry like the Unreal engine to create realistic scenes for movies, tv shows, and music videos.

With an impressive resume of working with famous people, popular movies, and big music artists, Spectre Studios is not a small time gig.

How then did VHS get involved with Spectre Studios?

Well, from a quick look at their Instagram it seems they’ve been involved together for some time now. Spectre has a Zed Run post on their Instagram from as far back as August 2021, so it is safe to assume they’ve been working together perfecting the visuals for the Zed Run platform most of the year.

Virtual Human Studios

It is also no secret that VHS is expanding rapidly.

The company secured a series A funding round in early 2021, raking in over $20 million dollars. Not to mention they have an extremely successful product, Zed Run, that has been making them millions already. On top of that, they have been on a hiring spree for most of 2021 filling all kinds of roles from marketing director to full stack developers. Clearly, this company has funds and a mission they need to accomplish.

In late 2021, they released several teasers about their next big project called Human Park.

There is still not a clear image about what Human Park will be, but we can safely assume they will need a strong VFX team for it.

Besides their upcoming plans, lets take a step back and talk about their already successful product – Zed Run.

Zed Run Impact

There are already tens of thousands of investors on this platform, and they are all eager to see where VHS takes the platform next with this acquisition. Most recently, the team revealed their 2022 road map with some huge promises and goals for the year.

The announcement was so positive, that the market immediately reacted in raising the floor on all NFT Horses used on the platform.

Although, what does this most recent acquisition have to do with the platform?

From above, we can already conclude that Spectre Studios has been working with the Zed Run product team all along. Probably helping with the marketing videos, visuals, and the future of the platform all together.

You see, Zed Run still has a long long way to go before it is mass market ready, so there is plenty of work for Spectre to do on the platform. Not to mention that we are quite confident that the team is not content with the platform simply being  “just a game“.

Imagine if you could enter virtual reality and actually attend a NFT horse race or better yet, watch your own horse race? In addition, why shouldn’t you be able to interact or visit your stable. Maybe take your horses for a walk to Hawku farms for some Carrots? We have a feeling that this is in the roadmap at some point.

What about Human Park? While we still don’t know exactly what it is, but we can imagine that next level virtual visuals will be apart of the main appeal.

We think this is all in the pipe line. Human park, Spectre studios, Zed Run, NFTs, and more is all just a continuation of their main plan. To build an immersive Meta based world where people can gamble, play, interact, and experience the next step of the internet and Web3.

We expect huge things to come out of VHS, and we think that Spectre Studios is just a small piece of the puzzle of what they have planned. In all ways, Zed Run will benefit from this acquisition long-term.

Zed Run Roadmap

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to go over the recently announced Zed Run Roadmap, and look at a recent post they made on their community page promising a huge announcement coming in the middle of January 2022.

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Roadmap

If you are not already racing NFT horses on Zed Run then what are you doing in NFTs?

Joking, but seriously, you should be paying attention to this platform. This is one of the hottest NFT platforms in the space, and new flash – we’re still early! The platform is still currently in BETA, but there have been announcements to change that very very soon.

This roadmap that we are going to discuss was jam packed with all kinds of exciting plans set to happen in 2022. So much so that right after it dropped, the market lit up and horses were flying off the market on Opensea almost instantly.

The floor of almost every Breed type of horse instantly rose due to the roadmap, so there must be something in it that investors liked. Lets take a look at some of Zed’s plans to make 2022 the best year yet!

2022 Roadmap

Here are some of the things that have been proposed on the 2022 Zed Run road map! Some of these plans are set to take place in Q1, Q2, and some are just a general year goal!

Lets dive into them:

  • Native token that will get airdropped to all NFT horse holders (VHS is partnering with Republic Crypto to launch this)
  • Proposed $10 Million for tournament prizes in 2022 that will be distributed by tournament winnings
  • Race horse retirement! Users will be paid in the native tokens for retiring horses. In addition, the more a horse was raced then the more tokens you are supposed to get.
  • More racing and tournaments in general that will be separated per genetype, bloodtype, and breedtype! This will bring huge utility to currently unraced horses!
  • New elo system for all horses! Right now this is the largest problem on the platform, and currently is making a ton of stables keep their horses in the barn. Much needed  improvement for the platform.
  • Skins are on the way! In fact, a UI/UX view has already been snuck out for testing on the BETA platform that a few people got a glimpse of.
  • Full platform launch moving out of the Beta platform. This will bring with it a new UI for the new platform. (first looks already seem pretty sweet)

We’re not going to lie, the road map seems almost TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Although, the best indication that these things will actually happen are the leaked and purposely placed sneak peaks that pop up around the platform.

Out of all of this hype and glory, what is the best news though?

Native Token Drop

ZedRun Roadmap

One of the most important things to take a deep dive on is the Native token that Zed Run is looking to create.

Creating a token is not as easy as it sounds. Therefore, the team has reached out to a reputable company, Republic Crypto to help with this. Republic has successfully launched plenty of tokens, and helped a surprising amount of projects on the market get through their initial launch phase.

Even so, there are a bunch of things that the team needs to consider before launching a token like:

  • Basic token economics (market cap, supply, distribution)
  • Token volume from other exchanges (getting volume from reputable exchanges is key for long-term growth and utility)
  • Maintaining token value for holders
  • Who gets air dropped tokens and why
  • Are Genesis horses more valued for air drop and by how much
  • and so much more

Launching a token is like managing a small economy at scale. Mix that with the general crypto market pump and dumps, and you get quite the puzzle.

Regardless, we have confidence in the team and the partners that they have currently can get the job done this year!

While all of this is extremely exciting, this is only the beginning.

What Are We MOST Excited For?

Out of all this hype news, we are actually most excited for the utility aspect to further the use of horses.

Currently, C1 horses can not be raced for profit and tournaments are basically pointless since you get stuck with all the best horses racing against each other in the quarters and semis.

Currently, there is no point in having a $100k horse if it can’t win $1000 in a tournament!

Although, this has flip flopped month after month with the meta changes on the platform. It seems the team has struggled to get this just right where all horses have a place on the platform,

Therefore, we are most excited for the new elo system. Lately, we have completely stopped racing until this comes out. We heard it MIGHT come out as soon as early February. That really is not that long to wait, so we’ll see yall on the track in February. Until then, it really is too much work to either:

  1. Get a race in your distance class
  2. Get a race without 5 monsters in it
  3. Or simply have the time to wait to get those races (like 2-4 hours for a full stable)

Besides this though, we are still extremely excited for this platform and here to stay.

The second thing we are most excited for is the token air drop.

If the team decides to airdrop tokens based on even 10%-20% of horse valuations, then that is quite a lot of money suddenly being given into the largest stables to use and race with! We are quite excited to hear how the team plans to distribute the tokens more, and if it will have as big of an impact as we think.

Upcoming Announcement

With the roadmap out and about, you would think all of the important news has hit the air. Well, you would be wrong.

Most recently on January 8th, the team dropped another post on their community page.

The team had this to say on the announcement:

Early next week, a game-changing announcement that our team has been waiting to share and release to the wider world is set to go live and shift us into the next phase of entertainment.

While yes, this is news of news – it is still exciting. Every time the team has done this they have come back strong with huge news like:

  • 20M series A funding round
  • Partnership with NASCAR
  • Partnership with Netflix
  • Hundreds of thousands in prizes for tournament winnings

Clearly, this team does not play games. We think that they have finally landed a serious partnership with a huge brand, but well leave the speculation to the comments and Twitter feeds.

Hawku Raises 4M

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to talk about the recent news – Hawku Raises 4M to build out an NFT marketplace that comes from this article on their blog!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Hawku Raises 4M

For those that are not familiar with Hawku, it is an NFT web app that is allows Zed Run players and stable owners to view certain things about their NFTs.

The platform displays anything from horse stats, rankings, speed values, popular listings on Opensea, and much much more!

The platform has garnered huge attention reaching over 3,000,000 hits per month in only its fourth month of existence!

Those numbers don’t lie, so the platform creators decided to reach for the next step – building out their own NFT marketplace.

Marketplace

Although, some people might be wondering – why a marketplace?

Well, we have a bit of an advantage into understanding this because – we use Hawku! More specifically, we happen to use and love a certain feature on Hawku, the listings page!

Hawku

The listings page allows anyone to sort, or filter, all of the available horses from the open market on Opensea by certain characteristics like:

  • Win rate
  • Parents win rates
  • Coat color
  • Breed type
  • Blood type
  • Heat percentages
  • Paid races
  • So much more!

What this does is cut the time for investors and people looking for those hot ticket items on the market.

It basically lets people find exactly what they are looking for without wasting time looking up each individual horse and going through their stats!

Since this is (probably) the most used and appreciated feature across the site, it is natural for them to seek to build out their own marketplace.

Seed Round

While people might think 4 million is small compared to companies raising hundreds of millions, it is more than enough to hire several talented developers to build out this platform.

We believe in this project and so do several other companies apparently. The funding seed round had companies like:

The seed round was led by Lightspeed venture partners and luckily had some huge names as well like VHS and Solana which was very impressive. We can’t wait to see what Hawku has in store for their marketplace, but we would assume it will utilize the Solana network given that they were apart of the funding round in some way.

Since this was only a seed round, Hawku can easily seek more capital down the line if needed with a series A, B, etc. Although this typically leads to diluting equity share, or simply selling off equity depending on how the agreement is structured.

NFT Marketplaces

While this is exciting, there is definitely sizable competition already in this space.

The most obviously competition is Opensea who currently is the only place where investors and owners of Zed Run horses can list, buy and sell their NFT horses.

Another marketplace that accepts Zed Run NFTs would really help as the number of assets continues to grow into the hundreds of thousands over 2022.

Other top names like Gamestop’s partnership with Loopring are set to bring forth an NFT gaming marketplace and Coinbase’s confirmation of an inevitable marketplace are things to consider.

Hawku already has a huge leg up being that it services a large group of NFT holders already with its website, but there will be tough days ahead as it tried to grow past that and reach into the other market directly competing with these other massive companies. All the while these other companies are stepping into the space with potentially hundreds of millions already at the muster.

Hawku Raises 4M Post

Thanks for reading our post on Hawku Raises 4m! We are so excited for this platform to expand and continue to provide excellent service in it’s newest endeavor! We’ll try to keep everyone updated as the project develops!

Zed Horses For Sale

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to quickly cover zed horses for sale! We’ll talk about:

  • Platforms to buy horses on
  • State of the market currently
  • What you want to focus on

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy he ride!

Zed Horses For Sale

If you’ve become a Zed head, then you are going to want to know where to purchase your first horse! The best place to find Zed horses for sale is none other than the Opensea platform!

If you’ve never used Opensea, it is a platform where people can buy, sell, trade, list, and create NFTs! Here is the link you will want to follow to go straight to the official Zed Run page on Opensea to purchase a horse.

The platform is extremely easy to use. The fastest way to start purchasing your own NFTs is to just setup a MetaMask account and connect it to the platform. After that, your NFTs will automatically pop up on the platform for use and your wallet will populate with WEth.

How To Move Funds

If you are looking to start purchasing horses on Opensea, then you are going to want to know how to move funds onto the Polygon network.

We have a great post about just how to do that here!

Although, there is one thing to mention.

There has been a change in how people move Eth from the Ethereum Blockchain to the Polygon network.

The cheapest solution on the market is now the Umbra bridge that can be found here!

In order to bridge your Eth to WEth, you simply need to go to the link above, bridge the amount you want, and it will show up in your Polygon wallet.

State Of The Market

Something also to consider is the current state of the market for Zed.

In the year 2021 alone, the prices of horses have risen and fallen dramatically depending on the state of the game. In the first half of the year, prices of horses shot up way higher than people ever expected. Z1s went from being worth a few Ethereum to worth over 20.

Although, in the second half of the year the prices of horses fluctuated downward. For instance, the Z1s have dropped to almost 10 Ethereum for a bad one and 15 Eth for an unraced one.

In addition to these changes, the price of Ethereum has shot from $2,000 to almost $5,000 at times making horse prices that much more volatile.

The only certainty in the market at the moment is for these kinds of horses:

  • Genesis horses that can consistently race for profit
  • Genesis horses that can consistently breed strong offspring
  • Low Z value genesis horses
  • Horses that can race for profit in C1 consistently
  • Horses that can race for profit in a certain distance brackets (sprinter, mid, marathon) and down class consistently in others staying in a lower class like C3 or C4
  • Unraced and unbred genesis horses

All of these kinds of horses above are retaining their value and should be what you look to buy if you are entering the market.

What To Focus On

Zed Run Horses For Sale

With all of that in mind, you are going to need a way to find those horses.

Most people in the market will either spend a ton of time combing Opensea daily, or use the Hawku website to help with that.

On the Hawku site, you can filter to the kind of horse you are looking for by going to listing. This is a huge help for those looking for racers, or for those looking to find horses that can breed well.

We suggest people use this tool when looking for the right zed horses for sale.

Another great tool to use is the know your horse site. If you use this site, you can easily view a potential purchase’s stats more in depth and get a better feel for their distance preferences and recent race history.

Zed Horses For Sale Post

Thanks for reading our post on Zed horses for sale! We hope this post helps you stay safe on the market, make smart decisions, and not waste your time or money.

Don’t forget to follow or Twitter to keep up with everything NFTs and Blockchain!

Zed Run Breeding Theory

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to go over our Zed Run Breeding Theory! To note, there are several plausible theories and plenty of discovery left in the game, so take this post at face value and make sure to dig into the data and resources yourself to determine your own theory!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Breeding Theory

While we might not be known for breeding, or really for much in the Zed space, we have been learning a ton over the past few months!

We’ve manage to qualify several horses for most tournaments, accumulated several hundred wins across our stables, bred a couple of ponies, and learned from some of the best in the eco-system.

With all of this, we have decided to start formulating and testing our own theories in terms of breeding. We feel that we finally have an acceptable level of knowledge to do so and share it with you. So here it is – our breeding theory.

Most people might be familiar with the XYZ or Danshan theories, but ours is quite simple.

We don’t worry too much about odds, griffins, or the infamous 1600m indicator of a good breeder.

Why might you ask? Well, we think there are simpler solutions.

Distance Preference And Bloodline

To sum up our theory:

We believe that offspring distance preference and a mix of bloodline are the two most important indicators for if a pair of horses will breed well together.

Lets give an example. Lets say we want to breed two horses from our barn. We are going to choose Idol Meaning and Different Gravey for this example.

Now, there are a few very important things we need to understand before we discuss our theory.

  1. Distance preference is NOT an inherited trait (If the parent is a sprinter, then offspring will not directly be a sprinter because of the parents distance preferences)
  2. Distance preference is chosen randomly at birth by the algorithm
  3. The horse’s variance is also randomly assigned at birth

All of the above statements have either been confirmed, said, or basically agreed upon by either the Zed team or the community.

Now then, what they DON’T say is the degree or type of randomness used.

Therefore, we believe that horses have a HIGHER chance at breeding certain distance preferences out to their offspring that is apart of their DNA if you will.

Choosing A Breeding Pair

Here are some things to consider before choosing a pair of horses to breed.

Obviously, you are going to want a horse with a high base ability, so you are going to want to have a Nakamoto or Szabo somewhere in the bloodline. That is a given.

Our theory also leans on the idea that mixing bloodlines produces the best offspring with the highest degrees of variance. Therefore, we aim to breed our Nak with either a Bute, Finney, or Szabo for example.

Lets go back to our chosen breeding paid Idol Meaning and Different Gravey. Here is an image of their offspring charts:

Here is Idol Meaning’s Breeding chart heat map by distance for his offspring from the Know Your Horses website:

Idol meaning Offspring

As we can see from the above image, out of 27 offspring Idol tends to breed horses that favor sprinting.

Likewise, lets look at Different Gravey’s breeding chart heat map by distance for his offspring:

Different Gravey Offspring

Again from the above chart we can see that Different Gravey breeds out a decent amount of sprinters, but has a much smaller sample size of only 6 offspring.

From these charts, especially Idol Meaning’s, we can see how our theory plays out.

Horses have a higher chance of breeding out certain distance preferences baked somewhere into their DNA. While still random, with enough data points we start to see it.

Therefore, if you get two horses that like to breed the same distance preference of offspring, then we theorize that you have a higher probability of getting more base ability into that distance preference from the get go and thus a stronger horse!

Bloodline Importance

The next thing to circle back on is bloodlines. It is quite apparent that Nakamotos carry the most base ability out of any of the lines. Although when it comes to breeding, they can only pass so much on to their offspring.

In our theory we believe that they are limited by their bloodline, just as they are gifted by it. The theory is that mixing bloodlines opens up the ability to pass on base ability to an offspring.

Now we still believe this is random obviously or people could just rinse and repeat the PERFECT pair of horses. But, we think mixing bloodlines gives an offspring a higher chance of being consistently better by having a higher base ability.

What’s the catch then?

Well, the catch is variance.

Variance Importance

The last piece of the puzzle, Ignoring coat colors and lore all together, is a horse’s variance.

Randomly assigned at birth, a horses natural ability to perform well(we mean REALLY well), is vitally important.

For instance, lets imagine a horse can have a maximum base ability of 100. And in any given race, variance determines the amount of that ability that it has access to.

Well, a horse that has the maximum base ability of 100 will STILL suck if it only has access to use 40% – 60% of it on the track. This would be what is considered an A-shaped racer.

Meanwhile, a horse that might be able to access 10% to 90% of its base ability will stomp races and then fully lose some. This would be considered a U-Shaped racer.

This is all determined by variance and is what makes determining the most important breeding variables so difficult to pin down.

Zed Run Breeding Theory Post

Thanks for reading this post on our Zed Run Breeding Theory!

Please remember that this is just ONE theory out of many. We hope people will treat this post as educational and informative as you find and test your own theories!

Well see you on the track!

Cheers

Zed Run Genotype

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to cover the Zen Run Genotype trait that horses have. There’s a lot to learn to lets go ahead and dive in!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice! Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Genotype

In this post we are going to dive into a fun property that Zed Run horses hold.

If you are unfamiliar with Zed Run, it is a virtual horse racing platform where stable owners can race their NFTs for Ethereum. You can find more about it here on our official review if you are new to the platform.

What Is Zed Run Genotype

To answer this frankly, it is the genealogy of an NFT horse represented by a numerical number from 1 all the way to 268.

Every NFT horse has this property and it can be thought of as an indicator for the horse’s potential base ability. For instance, you would naturally assume a Z001 would be better than a Z057.

While that is not always the case, it certainly lends the idea that stable owners will want to collect low Z value horses due to their potential to be better racers, breeders, and retain their value.

What Is Z Value

NFT Horse

Z value is the property that reflects a horses genotype.

For example, lets take a look at the genesis horses since they are broken down from bloodtype and genotype:

  • Nakamoto genesis horses have either a Z001 or Z002 property
  • Szabo genesis horses have either a Z003 or Z004 property
  • Finney genesis horses have either a Z005, Z006, or Z007 property
  • And finally Buterin horses have either a Z008, Z009, or Z010 property

As we can tell, the Nakamoto horses are the most sought after and prized horses on the platform due to their low natural Z values and higher potential to be good racers and breeders.

Speaking of breeding, what happens when two horses breed in regards to their genotype?

Breeding Horses

When two horses breed, the offspring is a combination of the parents Z value. For example, if a Z010 and a Z005 breed they will produce a Z015.

Therefore, you will never be able to breed anything lower than a Z002, since the lowest pair of parents you can have is a Z001 and a Z001.

Due to this, lower Z value horses will retain value better, inherit more traits from their parents, and have the best potential to became great racers.

Why It Matters

Although why does this matter?

At the end of the day, genotype is a sort of hierarchy in the horse world. While a Z010 could still be better than a Z001, it is rare.

For that reason, genotype is only an indication of potential. You will never really know how great a horse is until you breed and race it. Stable owners must take genotype as just that, face value.

How It Effects Racing

In practice though, it is clear that Z001’s are the platform’s Bitcoin.

For instance, in the grand finals of the first Fibonacci cup on the platform, almost all of the finalists were either Z001, or Z002.

This does not mean that a higher Z value horse could not have made it, but it does show the importance of having a low Z value for more consistency and quality.

Long-Term Utility

For those that are probably wondering this question,

“What is the point then in racing against Z001’s that will always beat my horse in the end?”

Well, there is always a chance that your horse will still win. While it is low, it is there. And everyone loves and upset.

Besides the small probability, the Zed Run platform is aiming at bringing utility to the masses.

What that means is that they want to provide the higher Z value horses with more utility and in turn more value. This might be through tournaments where only Z020+ horses can enter or it might be with tracks where only high Z value horses can race for large prize pools. We are not sure exactly how this will play out, but they have communicated as such.

In the meantime, we suggest people get used to the platform and build out your stables!

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we quickly cover the Zed Run Coat Color Chart!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run Coat Color Chart

For those that have been trying to find this, here is the image that most people use to figure out if their horse has a rare coat color or not!

Zed Run Coat Color Chart

There are many things about coat colors that most people might not know.

For starters, it is extremely rare to get a “super rare” coat color. You basically have to have one or two breeding together with the same super rare coat to get the highest probability, but even then it does not always work out.

Although, there was a fun theory that failed super rare coat color attempts increases base ability. This theory is not confirmed, but was brought up by the one and only Danshan.

The rarest coat colors by volume are currently:

  • Aggressive Azure
  • Papaya Whip

Both coat colors have less than 300 horses in total as of writing this at 12/16/2021.

In addition, there is a unique coat color only found on the horse Billions called fortune.

Finally, the coat color of Oval Orchid can also only be found on one Z1 horse. We suspect that once this horse breeds it will start to pass this coat color around to the rest of the population.

Zed Run Coat Color Meaning

While some people might think that the coat colors have nothing to do with the horse, that is not what was intended nor is that what will end up being the case.

While there might not be a direct correlation to racing and coat color at this time, down the line we feel there might be more of a correlation then people originally thought.

Lets go over the main classes of coat color:

  • The first branch of coat color, “Neptune” is supposed to represent patient, well balanced horses that are eager to please.
  • The next branch is called “Earth” and represents horses that love to run, have naturally high stamina, and are fast learners. A negative about these horses is that they can be easily spooked.
  • Up next is the “Wild” class which represents horses that are tough, independent and consistent. These horses are supposed to excel at a marathon, but can be upset if frightened.
  • Next is the “Moon” color class which represents horses that are versatile, balanced, and spirited.
  • The next color class is “Fiery” which as you can guess represents bold, quick , and agile horses. These horses have a ton of speed from their long-legged physique.
  • Next to last is the “Classic” coat class which represents horses that are level-headed, courageous, and consistent in energy levels. In addition, they mentioned that these horses might fair better as a stayer aka a horse that runs at distance.
  • Finally we have our last coat class “Mystical” which represents horses that are highly intelligent, energetic, versatile, and suitable for all race conditions.

Coat Color Theories

There are a ton of theories currently around coat colors.

For instance, do they actually do anything at all for the horses ability? Do they matter as much when it comes to long-term value?

As we mentioned above, some people believe that certain failed super coat horses perform better than others. Who knows yet, but soon we will have the data to start to dig deeper into these kinds of questions!

Long-Term Value

Another good question is will these rare coats hold their value long-term?

There has been some debate on this, as of now there really is nothing maintaining the super rare and rare coat value of a horse besides speculation.

Long-term, many of the Zed core team members have expressed that they want to bring additional utility to these horses. Either by offering them special races, or by giving them an animation boost on the track.

We don’t know yet what the benefit will be, but the Zed team has confirmed that they are looking to do something down the line.

how does zed run work

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to answer the question – How Does Zed Run Work?

While most people that read our posts might already be fairly familiar with the platform, there are plenty of new people entering the space that are asking this question daily.

Therefore, we are going to go over a few thing to help answer the question:

  • Platform Overview
  • Stable Overview
  • How Does Racing Work
  • Virtually Human Studios
  • Technical Overview

After this post, you should be able to explain Zed Run to your grandma!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

How Does Zed Run Work

There’s a lot to cover in this post, but we are going to try and keep it as condensed as possible. Sometimes too much knowledge will only confuse people looking for simple answers.

So, if after you’ve read this post, digested it and drank your coffee, you still want MORE – then scroll to the bottom and follow some of the links there to other posts with more detail and information!

With that said lets dive into the platform!

Platform Overview

Zed Run Racing

For those that are completely new to Zed, the website or platform can be found here at Zed Run.

This is where you will use your horses for a multitude of things like:

  • Breeding
  • Racing
  • Studding
  • Admiring
  • Eventually renting

The platform requires new users to sign up and link a MetaMask account to create your stable. Creating a stable is completely free and can be done in a matter of minutes without lengthy approval or annoying identity verification.

On the platform you can do several things like:

  • Watch current races that are happening under the “racing” tab. This tab is also where you will go to find available races later on
  • View the stud barn under the “breeding” tab. This is where you will go to find a male horse to breed with your female horses.
  • You can learn the basics about NFT horses under the “learn” tab. There is much more information found here on the community page for Zed and on our blog under the Zed Run menu item
  • Or you can see the most recent updates to the platform by using the “what’s new” tab.
  • The last thing is obviously the ability to view your stable by clicking on the top right icon of the platform IF you are logged in.

Not, lets go over the stable!

Stable Overview

Zed Run Stable View

If you create your stable by logging in with your MetaMask, then you have the option to click on the top right icon to access it.

In addition to creating a stable, you get to name it and have your very own link as well that you can share on your socials or with friends.

An extremely popular thing is to actually create a logo for your stable and get a Twitter account to help support it! For an example, you can find ours here:

The point of the Zed Run stable is to:

  • Show your horses
  • Display what horses are currently in races or in the stud barn
  • This is also where newborn horses will populate! Once they show up, you can click on them and name them!
  • Show your stable stats, wins, name, logo
  • Allow other people to view your stable and stats
  • This is where you click on each of your horses to: Race them, stud them, or view their stats
  • This is also where you can transfer your horses from stable to stable

The stable is extremely important, and you will spend a decent amount of time here, so it is good to get familiar with it.

How Does Racing Work

Once you have your stable setup with a few horses that you purchase on Opensea, it is time to race!

In order to race your lovely NFT horses here is what you need to do:

  • Connect your MetaMask account to the website to load up your stable
  • Go to the “racing” tab on the platform
  • Choose what class (1 through 5) that you want to race in
  • Click on your preferred distance (1000M – 2600M) and your preferred buy in (free – $500+)
  • Choose a horse from your stable after you click on a race
  • Approve the transaction on your MetaMask (it should popup or show that it has a notification)
  • Click on the race again to make sure your horse was entered
  • Wait for the race to fill
  • Go to “racing” after the race fills, then click “Next To Run”, and then filter for your horses
  • Here you can click on the race and wait for your horse to run!
  • Choose to either view the race in 2D or 3D!

After the race concludes, your wallet will automatically get paid out if your horse gets in top 3 by the smart contract!

Then all you have to do it rinse and repeat!

We will not get into racing strategy, but if you want to learn about racing in general and how to value a horse’s stats, then click here on this post!

Virtually Human Studios

Virtually Human Studios

The next thing to discuss is the company behind Zed Run. The company that made our hopes and dreams come true is called Virtually Human Studios!

You can find some of their socials here for those interested:

There is so much to say about this company, but we are going to only cover the basics and need to knows if that makes since.

The company we formally launched in 2019 with a small team. Over the years, they built up a community around their ideas and projects. In early 2021, they launched their first “drop” of Zed horses and sold out of most of the horses that were offered. There were some issues with the drops which resulted in horses not being sold, but for the most part there was plenty of interest from the community.

In addition to the successful drops, they raised around 20M in a series A funding round from the TCG group and a16z.

Most recently, they have unveiled partnerships with some huge brands like:

We are confident that there are several other partnerships in the works, but only time will tell who else is brave enough to join the NFT movement.

Technical Overview

Zed Run Community

The last part of understanding how Zed Run works would be to quickly and briefly covering the blockchain side of things.

To make this as simple as possible, we are actually going to quote a few things straight from the Zed terms of service to be as accurate as possible!

Zed Run Terms Of Service

ZED RUN is a distributed application that runs on the Ethereum network, using uniquely developed smart contracts (Smart Contracts) to enable users to purchase, sell, breed and race statistically unique digital thoroughbreds, which can then be visualized on a website that the user can interact and earn Ethereum from ZED RUN (ZED).

We neither own nor control MetaMask, Google Chrome, the Ethereum network, or any other third party site, product, or service that you might access, visit, or use for the purpose of enabling you to use the various features of ZED. ZED will not be liable for the acts or omissions of any such third parties, nor will we be liable for any damage that you may suffer as a result of your transactions or any other interaction with any such third parties.

If you elect to purchase, sell or breed racehorses using ZED, or with or from other users in ZED, any financial transactions that you engage in will be conducted solely through the Ethereum network via MetaMask. We will have no insight into or control over these payments or transactions, nor do we have the ability to reverse any transactions. With that in mind, we will have no liability to you or to any third party for any claims or damages that may arise as a result of any transactions that you engage in via the App, or using the Smart Contracts, or any other transactions that you conduct via the Ethereum network or MetaMask.

-Zed Terms Of Service

Simplified Version

In simple terms, Zed runs on top of Ethereum, uses smart contracts for payouts and to take payments for races, and utilizes MetaMask for users to retain rights to their NFTs.

Any purchases on the platform or on Opensea are all done on top of the Ethereum blockchain and can never be reversed once made.

Zed Run Tournaments

Welcome back to the Tribe! In this post we are going to discuss the best part of Zed Run currently, Zed Run Tournaments!

Nothing should be considered investment or financial advice. Enjoy the ride!

Zed Run

If you have not kept up with our latest series, we have recently dove into the NFT horse racing platform called Zed Run.

We started investigating this platform in mid 2021, and jumped in financially starting in Q3. We have a fair sized stable, and at this point hundreds of wins under our belt. Therefore, we have a pretty good handle on the platform and what people can expect from it.

If you have not heard of Zed and want to check it out, make sure to read our Zed Run review that can be found here!

Although for those that are familiar with the platform, you will be able to relate to this post when we say the best part of Zed recently has to be the on-going tournaments!

Zed Run Tournaments

Zed Run tournaments are what is currently giving life to the platform like never before.

Already there has been three tournaments each with $100,000 in total prizes to all who qualify, no matter your stable size or race history.

The three tournaments so far have been:

A tournament based on the best horses in the platform.

To qualify, horses needed to race a total of 30 times in their desired distance bracket. Of those 30 or more races, the average points that the horse got from the races were used to place it in the rankings for the cup.

If a horse got 1st then they received 89 points, 2nd got 55, 3rd 34, and so on.

If you want to learn more about this tournament, go here to find out everything you need to know about qualifying, brackets, point system and more.

The second tournament that Zed hosted was called the Pity cup.

This tournament was specifically designed to benefit horses that place 4th, just out of the three payment spots for a traditional race. Like the Fibonacci cup, horses needed to race in any race on the Zed platform to qualify. Points were awarded per race based on placement which was slightly different than the first tournament.

If you placed in 4th then you received 89 points, 5th or 3rd was awarded 55 points, 2nd or 6th got 21, and so on.

For this reason, the entire platform’s racing structure seemed to change over night as people started racing their donkeys in hopes of hitting it big!

The last tournament that is currently going on as of 12/5/21 is the second Fibonacci Cup.

This tournament is pretty much the exact same as the first, so we’ll move on.

Tournament Experience

While everyone’s tournament experience will be different, we want to talk about ours.

If you have not checked out our stable, it is a decent size. We typically have over 20 horses, 10 or so genesis horses, and plenty of class 1 racers. Therefore, we had a decent shot at just about every tournament so far.

In the first tournament, it seemed that everyone and their mother wanted to qualify. Therefore, the competition on the platform seemingly doubled over night as every horse came out of the barn. It was almost impossible to find a race without a monster in it, and if there wasn’t a monster, we were putting our monsters in it.

That tournament really kicked things off and probably told Zed, “Hey keep this up.”

We ended up getting horses into the quarters and semi-finals of the first Fibonacci cup, but unfortunately did not make it any further. Although, we had an awesome time just being involved at all.

For the Pity Cup, we surprisingly did extremely well. We had two horses that just recently found their best distances, and would place consistently 4th-2nd. For those reasons, we ended up getting two horses into the grand finals of the Pity Cup. One in bracket A, and one in bracket B. Unfortunately, the grand finals ended up being Z1’s running circles around the other pity horses. Still, we had an awesome time and won around $1,000 from the tourney.

Today, we are racing more than ever for the second Fibonacci cup. Currently, it is looking like we will have 5+ horses qualify, and we just breed another lot looking to sneak in 25 races before time expires.

Tournaments Overview

Again this is just our experience. We have a decent sized stable, and have put a good amount of money into our stable. So, it is only expected that we would get something out of it or at least be able to participate in these tournaments.

Now for most starter stables and beginners, they are probably still feeling left out. Although, do not worry because Zed has already said that they will continue to expand the tournament criteria to eventually reward horses that place in maybe 8th to qualify and so on.

The Zed team’s prerogative right now is to continue to bring utility to as many horses as possible, and yes that even means those Z173 pacers.

There was even a Youtube video of one of the co-founders Chris stating that they are using these current tournaments for feedback, Gauging user interaction, and looking to better understand the total effect they have on the platform.

We think that this is only the beginning and can’t wait to be involved with even more tournaments down the line!
