Zed Run Roadmap

If you are not already racing NFT horses on Zed Run then what are you doing in NFTs?

Joking, but seriously, you should be paying attention to this platform. This is one of the hottest NFT platforms in the space, and new flash – we’re still early! The platform is still currently in BETA, but there have been announcements to change that very very soon.

This roadmap that we are going to discuss was jam packed with all kinds of exciting plans set to happen in 2022. So much so that right after it dropped, the market lit up and horses were flying off the market on Opensea almost instantly.

The floor of almost every Breed type of horse instantly rose due to the roadmap, so there must be something in it that investors liked. Lets take a look at some of Zed’s plans to make 2022 the best year yet!

2022 Roadmap

Here are some of the things that have been proposed on the 2022 Zed Run road map! Some of these plans are set to take place in Q1, Q2, and some are just a general year goal!

Lets dive into them:

  • Native token that will get airdropped to all NFT horse holders (VHS is partnering with Republic Crypto to launch this)
  • Proposed $10 Million for tournament prizes in 2022 that will be distributed by tournament winnings
  • Race horse retirement! Users will be paid in the native tokens for retiring horses. In addition, the more a horse was raced then the more tokens you are supposed to get.
  • More racing and tournaments in general that will be separated per genetype, bloodtype, and breedtype! This will bring huge utility to currently unraced horses!
  • New elo system for all horses! Right now this is the largest problem on the platform, and currently is making a ton of stables keep their horses in the barn. Much needed  improvement for the platform.
  • Skins are on the way! In fact, a UI/UX view has already been snuck out for testing on the BETA platform that a few people got a glimpse of.
  • Full platform launch moving out of the Beta platform. This will bring with it a new UI for the new platform. (first looks already seem pretty sweet)

We’re not going to lie, the road map seems almost TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Although, the best indication that these things will actually happen are the leaked and purposely placed sneak peaks that pop up around the platform.

Out of all of this hype and glory, what is the best news though?

Native Token Drop

ZedRun Roadmap

One of the most important things to take a deep dive on is the Native token that Zed Run is looking to create.

Creating a token is not as easy as it sounds. Therefore, the team has reached out to a reputable company, Republic Crypto to help with this. Republic has successfully launched plenty of tokens, and helped a surprising amount of projects on the market get through their initial launch phase.

Even so, there are a bunch of things that the team needs to consider before launching a token like:

  • Basic token economics (market cap, supply, distribution)
  • Token volume from other exchanges (getting volume from reputable exchanges is key for long-term growth and utility)
  • Maintaining token value for holders
  • Who gets air dropped tokens and why
  • Are Genesis horses more valued for air drop and by how much
  • and so much more

Launching a token is like managing a small economy at scale. Mix that with the general crypto market pump and dumps, and you get quite the puzzle.

Regardless, we have confidence in the team and the partners that they have currently can get the job done this year!

While all of this is extremely exciting, this is only the beginning.

What Are We MOST Excited For?

Out of all this hype news, we are actually most excited for the utility aspect to further the use of horses.

Currently, C1 horses can not be raced for profit and tournaments are basically pointless since you get stuck with all the best horses racing against each other in the quarters and semis.

Currently, there is no point in having a $100k horse if it can’t win $1000 in a tournament!

Although, this has flip flopped month after month with the meta changes on the platform. It seems the team has struggled to get this just right where all horses have a place on the platform,

Therefore, we are most excited for the new elo system. Lately, we have completely stopped racing until this comes out. We heard it MIGHT come out as soon as early February. That really is not that long to wait, so we’ll see yall on the track in February. Until then, it really is too much work to either:

  1. Get a race in your distance class
  2. Get a race without 5 monsters in it
  3. Or simply have the time to wait to get those races (like 2-4 hours for a full stable)

Besides this though, we are still extremely excited for this platform and here to stay.

The second thing we are most excited for is the token air drop.

If the team decides to airdrop tokens based on even 10%-20% of horse valuations, then that is quite a lot of money suddenly being given into the largest stables to use and race with! We are quite excited to hear how the team plans to distribute the tokens more, and if it will have as big of an impact as we think.

Upcoming Announcement

With the roadmap out and about, you would think all of the important news has hit the air. Well, you would be wrong.

Most recently on January 8th, the team dropped another post on their community page.

The team had this to say on the announcement:

Early next week, a game-changing announcement that our team has been waiting to share and release to the wider world is set to go live and shift us into the next phase of entertainment.

While yes, this is news of news – it is still exciting. Every time the team has done this they have come back strong with huge news like:

  • 20M series A funding round
  • Partnership with NASCAR
  • Partnership with Netflix
  • Hundreds of thousands in prizes for tournament winnings

Clearly, this team does not play games. We think that they have finally landed a serious partnership with a huge brand, but well leave the speculation to the comments and Twitter feeds.

Hawku Raises 4M

For those that are not familiar with Hawku, it is an NFT web app that is allows Zed Run players and stable owners to view certain things about their NFTs.

The platform displays anything from horse stats, rankings, speed values, popular listings on Opensea, and much much more!

The platform has garnered huge attention reaching over 3,000,000 hits per month in only its fourth month of existence!

Those numbers don’t lie, so the platform creators decided to reach for the next step – building out their own NFT marketplace.

Marketplace

Although, some people might be wondering – why a marketplace?

Well, we have a bit of an advantage into understanding this because – we use Hawku! More specifically, we happen to use and love a certain feature on Hawku, the listings page!

Hawku

The listings page allows anyone to sort, or filter, all of the available horses from the open market on Opensea by certain characteristics like:

  • Win rate
  • Parents win rates
  • Coat color
  • Breed type
  • Blood type
  • Heat percentages
  • Paid races
  • So much more!

What this does is cut the time for investors and people looking for those hot ticket items on the market.

It basically lets people find exactly what they are looking for without wasting time looking up each individual horse and going through their stats!

Since this is (probably) the most used and appreciated feature across the site, it is natural for them to seek to build out their own marketplace.

Seed Round

While people might think 4 million is small compared to companies raising hundreds of millions, it is more than enough to hire several talented developers to build out this platform.

We believe in this project and so do several other companies apparently. The funding seed round had companies like:

The seed round was led by Lightspeed venture partners and luckily had some huge names as well like VHS and Solana which was very impressive. We can’t wait to see what Hawku has in store for their marketplace, but we would assume it will utilize the Solana network given that they were apart of the funding round in some way.

Since this was only a seed round, Hawku can easily seek more capital down the line if needed with a series A, B, etc. Although this typically leads to diluting equity share, or simply selling off equity depending on how the agreement is structured.

NFT Marketplaces

While this is exciting, there is definitely sizable competition already in this space.

The most obviously competition is Opensea who currently is the only place where investors and owners of Zed Run horses can list, buy and sell their NFT horses.

Another marketplace that accepts Zed Run NFTs would really help as the number of assets continues to grow into the hundreds of thousands over 2022.

Other top names like Gamestop’s partnership with Loopring are set to bring forth an NFT gaming marketplace and Coinbase’s confirmation of an inevitable marketplace are things to consider.

Hawku already has a huge leg up being that it services a large group of NFT holders already with its website, but there will be tough days ahead as it tried to grow past that and reach into the other market directly competing with these other massive companies. All the while these other companies are stepping into the space with potentially hundreds of millions already at the muster.

Today we want to update everyone on the Zed Run official tournament!

Zed Run Tournament

The hottest news in the Zed Run space is the recent tournament that the platform has launched!

The tournament is for all distances, all horses, and will ultimately end up with only a hand full of winners for huge cash prizes.

The first ever ZED RUN tournament will start with a two week period called the qualifiers starting on October 15, 2021. 

The best showing horses for all distances over the period will qualify for the tournament.

The cool thing about this tournament is that all races will qualify you no matter if they are a paid race or a free race. Every race counts towards qualification.

In addition, Zed Run has changed free races to no longer have a prize pool.

The previous rewards for winning a free race will now go towards the official tournament prize pools!

Zed Run Race

Qualifying For Quarter Finals

The tournament is based on a leaderboard that is broken down by the three sets of distances over 30 races that are run in the allotted time from October 15 to October 30. 

Here are the sets of distances a horse can qualify in:

  • Sprinter category: 1000M, 1200M, 1400M
  • Mid Runner category: 1600M, 1800M, 2000M
  • Marathoner: 2200M, 2400M, 2600M

It is important to note that a horse will only qualify for ONE set of distances that it ranks highest in. A single horse will not qualify in more than one distance set.

After October 30th, the top 192 horses in each distance set will be chosen. In total, 576 horses will be selected across the three sets of distances.

The way the horses will be selected is by their show rate on the first 30 races run in between October 15th and October 30, no matter the distance run! 

Horses will rank in the distance set they raced most in.

For example, if a horse runs 15 races in 2000M, 5 in 1000M, 5 in 2200M, and 5 in 1800M here is how it will break down:

  • This horse will be placed in the Mid Runner category since it ran a total of 20 races (out of the first 30).
  • The races for the 1000M and the 2200M will still be counted in its average for show rate
  • If the horse places in the top 192, then it will be selected to compete in the Mid Runner Category

Quarter Finals

Afterward for the quarter finals, the top 192 horses in each set of distances will be given additional races to run in their respective distances.

  • Sprinters will run at 1200M
  • Mid tier at 1800M
  • Distance at 2400M

The cool thing about these races is that only the top 3 of each race will continue on in the tournament. In addition, each race will be grouped by class and horse skill.

For instance, the top horses will race against each other in class 1, while the same happens in class 2, 3, 4, and 5.

This will happen for all the sets of distances to make for more competitive and better races.

After the quarter finals, 48 horses in total will progress to the Semi finals for each set 0f distances or 144 horses in total.

Semi Finals

The semi finals will consist of 12 races across all sets of distances.

This will be the first part of the tournament where horses are NOT separated by class or ability.

For the semi finals, horses will be randomly placed in races (still in their preferred set of distances).

For instance, a class 5 1800m runner could be placed against a class 1 1800m runner in this part of the tournament.

Each distance set will have 4 races for the horses to run. The top 3 horses from each race will progress to the Finals

This means that only 12 horses from each distance set will be in the finals!

Run Finals

In the finals, there will be 36 horses in total left over.

  • 12 horses in the sprinter category
  • 12 horses in the mid tier
  • and 12 horses in the marathon runner category

This is where things heat up since theses are the tip top horses from all distances and all classes.

There will only be ONE race run per distance set, and the top 4 horses will advance to the grand finals from each race.

Zed Grand Finals

Once we have our 12 BEST horses in all of Zed, it will be time to let those horses go head to head. This will be the first part of the tournament where the top horses will directly compete across all distance sets.

Here is how the grand finals will play out:

  • First race: 1000M
  • Second race: 1400M
  • Third race: 1600M
  • Fourth race: 2000M
  • Fifth race: 2200M
  • Sixth race: 2600M

In addition, the 12 horses racing in the grand final will be given points per race that will contribute to see who is the best in the business! Here is how the points will be given out:

  • 1024 points for first
  • 512 points for second
  • 256 points for third
  • 128 points for fourth
  • 64 points for fifth
  • 32 points for sixth
  • 16 points for seventh
  • 8 points for eighth
  • 4 points for ninth
  • 2 points for tenth
  • 1 points for eleventh
  • 0 points for twelfth

The winner will be determined by the amount of points each horse accumulates over the 6 races!

Zed Tournament Prize

But what about the prizes right? Here is how the prize structure will break down:

  • 13% will be given out in the grand final amongst the 12 horses
  • 19% will be given out in the finals amongst the 36 horses
  • 23% will be given out in the semi finals amongst the 144 horses
  • 45% will be given out in the quarter finals amongst the 576 horses

In addition, here is how the prizes will be given out:

  • First place finishes will get 60%
  • Second place finishes will get 25%
  • Third place finishes will get 15%

Zed Run And NASCAR

Zed recently announced that their NASCAR partnership is starting to materialize onto their platform with an upcoming event.

On October 3rd NASCAR will make its debut on the Zed Run platform. This will directly coincide with NASCAR’s YellaWood 500 race that is set to take place at the Talladega Superspeedway.

With this event, there will be a new track that opens up called the Bill France Sr. Stakes Race Track. This name was chosen in honor of the founder of NASCAR – Bill France Sr.

On its debut,  Zed Run will open the race tack to be used by all Zed Run users!

If a user races a horse on the new track in the 24 hour time period starting at October 3 12AM EST, then they will automatically be entered into a lottery. This lottery will decided who gets the first free 100 Zed passes!

Zed Passes

Another part of this announcement was a new feature that Zed will be adding to the platform.

That feature is the Zed passes!

This event will feature a NASCAR specific Zed pass that will ultimately reward holders with future in-game utility, and special perks down the line.

In total, there will be 1,000 NASCAR Zed passes released in this event. The first 100 will be given away from the lottery based on users that race October 3, while the other 900 will be sold on Opensea most likely to the highest bidders!

The team has yet to announce when the other 900 passes will be for sale, but make sure to keep checking because we are sure they will sell fast!

While there will only be one specific Zed pass added from this event, we anticipate that there will be more in the future as sponsors and companies continue to come onboard.

We can even see certain passes being given out for tournament victories all leading to one grand race eventually! I am sure the team has tons of ideas still behind closed doors, but it is fun to imagine.

Zed Eco-System

While the pass feature is unexpected, we were just talking about new tracks entering the eco-system the other day.

As the game stands currently, we feel there are a number of issues. One of which was that there is only one place to race your horses!

This really creates a huge problem in terms of diversifying the competition and giving all users (mainly new ones) a chance to win some races.

Currently, there are too many high end stables racing on the single track..

These big stables are basically taking advantage of the lesser competition, aka new users.

Although, with the new track hitting the scenes, we believe this will help diversify the competition and open new avenues for users to benefit.

NASCAR Partnership

The new track should open up October 3 at 12AM!

Make sure to take the time to run a few races on it and get your entries for the giveaway.

Also, make sure to try and bid on one of the Zed passes coming up on Opensea. Our gut tells us that it will be worth the price!

And?

Yep Stuff Happens, good stuff happens, bad stuff happens, unbelievable stuff happens. Here is some stuff that has happened in my recent story.

There is horrible stuff and wonderful stuff but it is my stuff, and I would like share my stuff with you. 10 years ago they told my step mother she was cancer free! Stuff Happens!

3 years ago she died of that same cancer they couldn’t see on her CT scans. Stuff Happens!

6 months after that I had figured out why they couldn’t see/measure it and I fixed it. Stuff Happens

6 months ago I quit my job and cashed in my retirement to fund my technology company (less than a floor ape) and non profit to share the tech with the world! Stuff Happens!

The IRS drops the ball on the 5013c status and we miss the funding opportunity we had. Stuff Happens!

A few months ago I am tasked with analyzing an NFT project and am given a small bag to buy and sell a couple of NFTs to familiarize myself with the process. Stuff Happens!

I decide to help fund my non profit by releasing a collection of AI generated art as Van Goatee. Stuff Happens!

I buy a crappy horse in this beta project called Zed Run and create Van Goatee stables. Stuff Happens!

The Scam

I reach out on Discord to discuss the upcoming NFT project on with moderators for Opensea, Mintable, Rarible and have good discussions with them including one that “helps me with a header issue I am having” on a chat. Stuff Happens!

I decide to Ape into Zed Run and make my first major purchase with 2 Buterin Genesis Females. Stuff Happens!

My breeding plan is too one sided (color only) and my knowledge too limited to buy a good horse. Stuff Happens!

I discover the Steppe Stables color calculator and with the power of Slate Gray, I use the breeding algorithm to create the Darthside Supercoats. Stuff Happens!

My wife buys me an early Christmas present and spends an insane amount (for us) of ½ eth to buy Darth Vader ($900 at that time). Stuff Happens!

I buy a U/U/U for my color breeding program. It is my first Finney. A legendary slate Gray status with no research. It was just a very overpriced lotto ticket. Stuff Happens!

That horse is Darth Talon. Stuff Happens!

I manage to race, trade, hustle, and breed my way up the chain to having 3 genesis males, 2 colts, and Looper my slate gray stud. Eventually, I even add Zhabo a slate gray filly. Stuff Happens!

I learn to use the tools of the community to better play the game and give back to the streamers and toolmakers with the only resource I have – Van Goatee Originals. I start looking at other projects and other groups on discord to buy into more new projects that are not yet verified. Stuff Happens!

I mint the first super rare Rainbow Zhabo ZRC token. Stuff Happens.

I finally have 3 genesis males 2 of them colts for long term holds Electric Viking and High Rider. Stuff Happens!

I get slate gray Finney half siblings to breed together a twin from a breeding set up with a major stable and layaway my first Nakamoto Z4. I am on my way! Stuff Happens!

I bought a super cheap item from a collection on Opensea for a tenth of what the rest are going for. Stuff Happens!

I get an email notification saying my JCC Token sold but I hadn’t listed it. Stuff Happens!

I am looking at my phone when the notification comes in! Stuff Happens!

I pull up Opensea as more notifications start to flash on my screen for Looper, Electric Viking, and Darth Malak. Stuff Happens!

There is a panic button on the app and I push it! The flood stops. Stuff Happens!

The Recovery

All the currency on my MetaMask account is gone except 100 dollars in ETH. Stuff Happens!

I share my experience as it is happening to my new community. I am greeted with compassion, sympathy, and offers to help in any way they can even stables with no horses reached out to me. Stuff happens.

I create a new wallet and send my remaining horses to their new home safe and sound because even though Opensea is locked down Zed Run bypasses Opensea and allows the transfer between stables. (Good for me today but big security loophole) Stuff Happens!

I am given a Dinomonk by one member of the community and a horse by Retro Racing (still makes me cry thank you) to do with as I please race it sell it whatever. Stuff Happens!

And it doesn’t matter. Stuff Happens!

Good stuff, bad stuff, what matters is the and! What do you do next, how do you move forward, how are you changed by the experience you have. The and is where life is!

I hope some of this stuff never happens to you. I hope some of this stuff does happen to you. I can’t wait to hear about the AND though.

Zed Run – Sanfrancisco Tribe Message

Hey Zed Heads, we want to reach out personally to the community about what recently happened to our friend Dave.

The other day while surfing Opensea (pun intended), Dave bought a suspicious NFT.

He signed to approve the transaction, and went on his way.

Unfortunately in signing to approve the NFT, he might have unintentionally let hackers into his account.

Now, we do not have all the details on how this is possible, or for sure if it was the purchase that let hackers into his account. He told us it could have also been a site he previously signed into or the moderator that “helped him” with his header issue.

All we want to say is be careful. Be careful with your wallets, be careful with accepting random NFTs, and be careful who you trust in this space.

Dave was blessed to get most of his horses back, and then some from giving community members. That is exactly why we feel that Zed Run will succeed in the long run.

Because of the community.

Dave can attest to that.

For the cliff notes, Zed Run is a virtual horse racing and breeding platform that works on top of the Matic Polygon network in conjunction with the Ethereum blockchain. Behind the scenes they utilize many parts of the crypto ecosystem like Opensea, The Graph, and MetaMask to make the platform function seamlessly.

Now that you know what we are discussing, lets get into the newest update to the platform – more daily free races.

Zed Run Free Races

To understand why free races are so important, we need to discuss what a free race does for a horse. For example, what is the point of a free race other than to give money to the lucky winner? Glad you asked. Here is a list of things that free races do for the community:

  1. Free races allow owners to test the strengths of their horse without costing them money to do so like in paid races. This allows them to gather intel on their horse’s base speed, flame, and in prior cases the odds of winning
  2. New players will also not always be comfortable risking money early on. Therefore, having free races open to all and available will entice them to get comfortable with racing in general
  3. Out of money for your paid races? Do some free races and recoup some Eth to be able to race in the paid ones again!
  4. While Zed Run is undoubtedly making money off racing, breeding and selling, having a healthy level of funds re-entering the eco-system is always good for sustainable growth

These are some of the reasons WHY having free races in the eco-system are important. Now, lets look at some of the prior issues Zed was having with their free race system.

Issues With Free Races

There were many issues with the prior free race system. Zed needed to fix this since there was a decent uproar in the community about it. Here are the top issues the platform was having:

  1. Free races were too few and practically impossible to get into
  2. The rewards for free races were around $2-$3 which is not enough to re-enter the paid race scene with
  3. There were only class 1 free races which allowed a wide variety of horses to enter. This could greatly skew the curve in the favor of any strong class 1 horse entering

Changes to Free Races

Here is how Zed fixed the issues above:

  1. Zed increased the rewards on free races per class. Rewards now for winning a free race can exceed $50 per race
  2. They divided up free races by class which makes them more appropriate for each group of horses racing
  3. The frequency of free races was increased dramatically
  4. They posted about the changes and made it clear so everyone could participate and be aware!

The changes from one system to another is practically night and day. There is a strong assumption that due to the recent overall success of the platform and funding of 20M into the company behind it, that the team is now much more comfortable giving back to the community. Granted there is still much more to do on the platform, this is a great start to enticing new horse owners into the community.

Zed Community

The Zed team clearly listened to what their community had to say.

Not only did they make a few changes to benefit the eco-system, but they also made it clear that the intention of the $20,000 total prize pool per day was to give back! With this amount of funds re-entering the community per day, there should start to be explosive growth of new comers looking to pick some of this up.

Realistically, a new stable owner could purchase a couple horses for around $100-$200 each, enter free races daily, and hopefully start to bring in some passive income. Now, this is not the actual idea of the platform and long-term vision, but giving the “little guys” something to eat is extremely important for the long-term success of the platform.

Overall, the team increased free racing payouts by over 700% per day. This is spread out across all classes, and can be as much or more than $20,000 per day. While there might be a lot of strong projects out there in the crypto space, this definitely puts Zed Run on the map to be one of the most watched and anticipated as we move into Q4 of this year!
